What Is We Day?

I attended We Day here in Vancouver last month.

I wasn’t totally sure what We Day is exactly, or why I should attend. When I read that Selena Gomez was hosting, and there were a myriad of other recognizable names in the lineup, I thought I should take my two oldest daughters along and check this thing out, so I could tell you about it.

I learned very quickly that this We Day thing? It’s about all of us. Our kids, youth, our schools, our futures, it’s about all of us.

It is: 20,000 students in an arena, who all earned their way there through community service, to attend a day of inspiration, celebration, gratitude and encouragement.

The message is simple:

Find your passion and do something about it. Whether its a local cause or a global issue, everyone can do something to make a difference.

The arena was filled with so much energy I had goose bumps for most of the day.

The lineup was simply amazing, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (above) spoke three times, Orlando Bloom spoke both at the morning press conference and during the day’s event, Shawn Mendes performed twice, Marianas Trench, Kardinal Offishall and many more. Jennifer Lopez was the surprise guest!

You can’t do everything but everyone can do something.

The day is a constant flow of inspiration:  videos, speakers, youth bloggers, athletes, causes, even sponsors giving motivational talks. There is even a We Day dance we had fun with several times throughout the day.

My take away is that everyone can do something. From as young as 3 years old, we can teach our children that they can make a difference. They can do something to give back.
