With the second wave of COVID-19 upon us, I have decided to bring back Small Business Sundays! Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and we need to support them however we can.
Mama Bear Play Club was started by two mamas with a mission to bring moms together through the common moms share, motherhood. Their goal is to provide a safe space for support, education, resources, and fun activities for both mama & baby, while also supporting local businesses.
What is Unique About Your Business or What Made You Choose This Type of Business?
We chose this business because we are passionate about giving back to our community through the knowledge, experience, and education we have received in both of our journeys as mother and our careers in healthcare as nurses. We love having the ability to help and support mamas through these ever changing first years of motherhood by providing them a network of support, resources, and some lifelong friendships.
What is Your Favourite Small Business (Aside From Your Own)?
We love our businesses that we collaborate with, which include: Fit Beside Me, Revive Wellness, FUNctional Physiotherapy, Sleeping Beautiezzz, From Play to Words, and Parkland Wellness.
If You Had One Piece of Advice to Someone Just Starting Out, What Would It Be?
Be gentle with yourself. Take your time starting out and give yourself room for growth and change. Also, lean on your support, find other mamas that are in the same stage as you. It is helpful to have a community to ask for advice, vent, cry, and just connect.
What Are Your Long-Term Business Goals?
We would love to grow this business to the point where we have the ability to expand and support more mamas in other communities. We want to be continuously running our groups, mama-to-be, mama & me, and mama & babe. Our goal is a mama who is in her third trimester starts her Mama Bear Play Club journey with like-minded mamas, and continue through the groups with her baby and then her toddler. We want to support mamas in their whole journey of motherhood from the moment they are pregnant, to them navigating toddlerhood.
What Is Your Funniest/Weirdest/Most Memorable Experience With A Customer or Client?
Our most memorable experience would be when we ran our first Mama & Babe group in November 2020. We were excited and nervous and hoping the mamas in the group enjoyed it as much as we did. And they did! There’s a common theme in the reviews and that is gratefulness that there is our educational moms group in the community, that they all said they felt was needed.
