FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5th

 

Spirit of Christmas at Sea to Sky Gondola (10:30 am – late
Location: 2 km south of Squamish, just off Sea to Sky Highway
Details: Grab your friends and family for a fun-filled winter weekend at the Sea to Sky Gondola, BC’s newest winter playground! Here is what is happening on Dec 5th: 10:30am – Children’s Story Time, 5:00pm –  Fondue dinner, 5:00pm – Tree Lighting Celebration. If you think you might visit more than three times this Christmas and winter season, consider purchasing your own season pass. Buy passes online or at Guest Services. $99 for adults and $249 for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children 18 and under). See more information.
 
 
Bright Nights at Stanley Park Train (various times) BOOK TICKETS IN ADVANCE!
Location: Shipbuilders’ Square at the foot of Lonsdale Avenue, North Van
Details: During the holiday season, the Bright Nights Train and Plaza at Stanley Park sparkles with three million twinkling lights, decorating the darkness that comes early at this time of year. Partial proceeds from the sale of Bright Nights tickets go to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund, which helps burn survivors and their families. $1.4 million has been raised over the past 16 years. Entrance to the Bright Nights Train Plaza is by donation (you don’t need to purchase train tickets to see the holiday lights). Donations will be accepted at the front gate. And if you want an evening train ride, book your tickets early! They always sell out way in advance. Open every day between Nov 27, 2014 and Jan 4, 2015, except for Christmas day. 
 
 
Shipyards Christmas Market (5 – 9 pm) $2 or $5 for season pass
Location: Shipbuilders’ Square at the foot of Lonsdale Avenue, North Van
Details: The Market is back for Christmas! Get into the festive spirit early as you browse amongst the 50 artisan stalls packed into the beautifully decorated Pipe Shop building. Enjoy live music, festive light displays and food from your favourite food trucks. It’s a great way to kick-start your Christmas shopping and reduce your list. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until December 23rd! 
 
 
Scuba Claus @ Vancouver Aquarium! (10 am – 5 pm daily)
Location: Vancouver Aquarium, Stanley Park, Downtown Vancouver
Details: Everyone’s favourite festive guest, Scuba Claus, returns for his lively annual visit to celebrate the holidays at the expanded Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre. Catch Scuba Claus on his daily dive in the Georgia Strait exhibit-a stunning exhibit full of colourful marine life found on British Columbia’s coastlines, including halibut, rockfishes, sturgeon, crabs and sea stars. Experience the Holidays at Vancouver Aquarium from November 27 until January 4, 2015 (including Christmas Day), with electric eel-powered holiday tree and jelly swarm exhibit, 4-D theatre film adventure of THE POLAR EXPRESS, and outdoor maze of trees and crafts & stories with Scuba Claus’s elves. Scuba Claus appearances until December 24th. 
 
 
Tinsel, Trees & Treasures! (6 – 8 pm) FREE
Location: Parkgate Community Centre, 3625 Banff Court
Details: Take your family and friends to this great family holiday celebration for sing-a-long carols, hot chocolate, chili, crafts, cookie decorating and photos with Santa! Enjoy a winter wonderland of Christmas trees displayed throughout the festive season, sponsored by community businesses and organizations. 
 
 
Winter Movie: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe! (6:30 – 8:45 pm) FREE
Location: Parkgate Library, 3675 Banff Court, North Van
Details: Take your popcorn and snacks for a family movie evening at the library. In World War II England, Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter enter the world of Narnia through a magical wardrobe while playing a game of ‘hide-and-seek’ in the rural country home of an elderly professor. Once there, the children discover a charming, peaceful land inhabited by talking beasts, dwarfs, fauns, centaurs and giants that has become a world cursed to eternal winter by the evil White Witch. 
 
 
Park & Tilford Hi-Light Festival (6 – 9 pm) BY DONATION
Location: Park & Tilford Gardens, 333 Brooksbank Ave, North Van
Details: Open daily from 4:30 pm until December 31st. Visit the gardens at Park & Tilford and view over 50,000 twinkling lights. Every Friday is family night from 6:00 – 9:00pm with lots of live entertainment, visits from Santa, cookie decorating, face painting, strolling characters and carol singers. Entry is by donation and 100% of the proceeds go to the City and District of North Vancouver Firefighters Charitable Society. 
 
 
 

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6th

 

Breakfast with Santa (9 am & 11 am) $8.25 / $5.50
Location: Parkgate Community Centre, 3625 Banff Court, North Van
Details: Enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast with Santa and a sing-along with Mrs Claus and the elves. Hosted in partnership with the Mount Seymour Lions. Advance registration is required. 604-983-6350

Capilano Canyon Lights (11 am – 9 pm
Location: Capilano Suspension Bridge Park  3735 Capilano Road, North Van
Details: Runs Sat, Nov 29 to Sat, Jan 3. You’ll be dazzled by hundreds of thousands of lights glittering throughout the rainforest, across the Suspension Bridge and on the CLIFFWALK. A children’s scavenger hunt, gingerbread cookie decorating, sing-a-long carols with the holiday band are all back by public demand and new this year, create your own Christmas card and enjoy holiday treats in the Winter Pavilion. 604-985-7474

Location: Lynn Valley Library, 1277 Lynn Valley Road, North Van
Details: Paperback Christmas trees are back! Spend the afternoon at the library enjoying treats, Christmas music and a festive library craft!  Learn how to create these whimsical paperback Christmas trees from scratch, or have fun decorating one that’s ready for you. Location: Park & Tilford Gardens, 333 Brooksbank Ave, North Van
Details: Open daily from 4:30 pm until December 31st. Visit the gardens at Park & Tilford and view over 50,000 twinkling lights. Christmas Festival (5 – 8 pm) FREE
Location: Shipyards at the foot of Lonsdale Ave, North Van
Details: Celebrate the holiday season at the City’s annual Christmas Festival. Shipbuilders’ Square will be transformed into a winter wonderland, filled with music, carols and festive lights. A family friendly event with activities, crafting, a Christmas sing-a-long, a sail-by by the Carol Ships and a whole host of musical and artistic surprises throughout the night. Bring your skates and take a twirl across the skate rink and don’t forget to visit Santa in his workshop.
