If you’re in the market for a new, affordable, family car, consider a sedan. Yes, we know, sedans aren’t nearly as popular as they once were; big bad SUVs and giant-family-hauler minivans have become more common for the family car purchase over the years.
The 2020 Nissan Altima could be perfect for you if your budget is $30,000-$40,000 and you’re okay with seating for five and not having the ground clearance than a minivan or SUV. Every model even comes equipped with intelligent all-wheel-drive, so you don’t need to give up that piece of mind.
What We Loved
Surprisingly comfortable! The seats are soft, wide and comfortable, making the interior feel larger than you would think for a sedan. My girls sat in the back with barely a complaint and they’re two adult-sized and one tween girls who love their own personal space as you would imagine.
AppleCarPlay offers the convenience of using voice-to-text (or call, of course), using your own music playlists and Maps, which we can’t live without! It’s standard on the Altima; as is Android Auto connectivity, all with a touchscreen infotainment system. All models include an “8 touchscreen
Everything is right where it should be and within reach in the Altima. All the buttons and settings from lights to wipers, cruise control, and climate control are simply laid out. We love straightforward yet sophisticated engineering!
If you think you’re giving up a lot of cargo space by going with a sedan, think again. The Altima trunk has 15 cubic feet of cargo space, and the rear seat is a 60/40 split so that you can throw in some larger items and still carry a passenger or two in the back seat.
Safety is a Priority in Family Cars
Standard safety features found in every Nissan Altima include forward collision warning, emergency braking, rearview monitor and Intelligent all-wheel drive.
ProPilot assist is standard all but the base Altima model and includes adaptive cruise control, lane centering and brake assist.
Trims and Price Points
Starting at only $28,098 for the S model, moving up to $31,598 in the SV and get ProPilot Assist, intelligent lane intervention, 17″ Aluminum-alloy wheels and a power sliding glass moonroof and topping out at $35,098 for the Platinum, the Altima is family-budget-friendly.
