We recently had the opportunity to test out the Via Velo Bike Trailer and my kids LOVED every minute of it! My husband and I both took the kids out for a ride so that we could both get a feel for the Bike Trailer and compare notes.
The Via Velo is designed to hold one or two children (to a maximum weight of 100 lbs) comfortably! The seat is cushioned and offers a padded harness to hold your little ones in, the harness is fully adjustable so that you can get the shoulder height just right for the safest ride! It is important to know that the harness can be used similar to above OR one harness can be removed while the remaining harness can be moved to the centre position to comfortably hold one child.
The Via Velo is super light and easy to assemble, and it attached to the bike with no issues at all. When my hubby was testing it out her noted how smooth it was to pull and commented on how well constructed it was — honestly he said something about bearings and how they make this trailer superior to other brands we have tried, but I don’t really know exactly what that means.
My two and three year old sat together in there with plenty of space for both of them! On the day of this ride, it was a little bit windy so they opted to have the rain cover down but it is super easy to roll up for the days when it is nice and warm.
Things I love about the Via Velo include the giant back pocket that is great for tossing the jackets in to, the large wheels and the colour! I am also happy to report that even when pulling 75+ lbs it pulled really well, and stops really well too. Since we usually go out riding as a family we have to adjust our speed so that our five year old can keep up too, once we hit the open paths my hubby can take off to the end and loop back around while me and the little guy mosey on. Just for fun hubby sped down the path and “tested the brakes” on his bike, {they work} and the bike trailer came to a complete stop as well.
Overall our family was really impressed with the Via Velo, everything from the way it pulled, to comfort for the riders and the complete design. Notice above how there is an elastic around a peg (for lack of a better word) to keep the front cover closed, in my opinion this is much better than other models that offer a velcro closure as it never seems to fit properly!
