We are ecstatic to introduce our first Celebrity Moms – Canada’s Bobs & LoLo!
Bobs & LoLo are two-time Juno nominated singer-songwriters and the dynamic duo regularly spotted on Canada’s national preschool network, Treehouse TV in their upbeat, musical preschool series – Sing, Dance and Play with Bobs & LoLo. The Canadian pair is dedicated to connecting children to nature with music, movement and make-believe. Sharing musical stories that engage, inspire and educate, they teach young audiences to care about the world around them.
What began as a small collaboration in 2003 between Robyn Hardy (Bobs) and Lorraine Pond (LoLo) has led to numerous awards including recognition from the Parents’ Choice Foundation, Western Canadian Music Alliance, the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada as well as the Juno Awards (2010 and 2012 nominees). Growing up together on Vancouver Island, Robyn and Lorraine have always shared a love of the natural world and a passion for working with children. Bobs & LoLo allows them to combine their diverse academic backgrounds with a mutual love of teaching and the creative arts.
How Does She Do It?
Lorraine Pond (Lolo)
Are you an Urban or Suburban Mama, where do you live?
Urban! I made the move to Vancouver from Vancouver Island nearly twenty years ago. My husband and I have moved through different neighbourhoods in the city including UBC, Dunbar, Mount Pleasant and Kitsilano, but we settled in East Vancouver off Commercial Drive two years ago. We love the diversity in our community – from the people to the food to the variety of events and activities.
Tell us about your children (how many, how old?)
I have a smart, silly and feisty three-year-old daughter and a happy, monster-sized 10-month-old son.
Tell us about your typical weekday.
Each weekday is a feat of multi-tasking glory…or at least that’s what I aim for! A typical weekday starts with an extremely ambitious list of what I want to get through. This often includes a number of work-related things, occasional play dates and structured kiddie activities, naps, meal planning and subsequent grocery runs, a quick walk for the dog and park play. More often then naught, I add sibling mediation, three-year-old negotiations and a ridiculous amount of potty time to the list.
Do you have help?
I have an amazing husband who is my number one partner in the crazies of life. We are also fortunate to have both of our moms within a couple of hours travel to the city. They are a huge support during the extra busy work times, especially with the travel required for Bobs & LoLo. We also hired a house cleaner last year. Best marriage counseling practice ever!
Who cooks dinner?
Given that my husband commutes from UBC for his job (approx. 40 mins), I’m usually the one home to cook dinner. On the super busy days, we don’t shy away from take-out. I probably see the sushi delivery guy more than some of my good friends!
How often do you buy something for just you?
If we don’t count coffee or wine, I would say maybe every few months. I usually treat myself to something if I’m going to an event or travelling. Getting my hair cut, a pedi or new clothes are always treats for me.
Do you exercise regularly and if so, what and how do you fit it in?
25lb baby + three story townhouse. Beyond that, I try to get out for regular runs, which usually means waking up in the wee hours of the morning before my hubby leaves for work. While the extra early starts aren’t my favourite, I do love starting my day with a quiet jog through our neighbourhood and a few moments of peace to collect my thoughts.
What clothing lines/stores do you like to buy for your child(ren)?
There are so many local clothing companies that I absolutely love. The adorable dresses at Redfish Kids are amazing for special occasions and Peekaboo Beans is our go to for play clothes. I’m also a huge advocate of consignment buys for my kids and regular stops are Bean Sprouts on Main Street and Wee Ones Reruns on Kingsway in Vancouver.
Complete the following:
I’m totally obsessed with…social media and my weather app!
Three things in my purse right now …a water bottle, wet wipes and Bobs & LoLo stickers!
My favorite drugstore buy is….yummy scented hand cream!
My guilty pleasure is….cheese! Even better with wine.
Thank you!
Thank you to Bethany for taking these gorgeous photos of Lorraine!
