This past weekend my family and I experienced the snowy paradise of the kid-friendly Silver Star Mountain Resort just outside of Vernon, British Columbia. It is truly a family destination with snow fun like tubing and skating, amazing skiing, nordic adventures, and even horse-drawn carriages. The quaint village offers all amenities for a perfect getaway.

It’s a 4.5 hour drive from Vancouver, with stops and winter road conditions, count on a six hour trek being just outside Vernon, British Columbia in the North Okanagen Valley. Be sure you have snow tires, pack extra snacks & water for the car, and stop to enjoy lunch in Kelowna on your way up.
Stay
The Firelight Lodge, the newest accommodations offering in Silver Star, offers full kitchens in all rooms from Bachelor to Premium Suites sleeping from 2 to 6 people. The Lodge is located on the pond beside Tube Town and just across a parking lot from the Village.
Devour
Our dinner pick was 1609 Restaurant & Lounge which includes great food with a delicious wine list and a great kids menu. Everything was freshly made, including the homemade baked mac & cheese for the kids. The wine list was primarily BC wines, which we always love to sample.For Breakfast, We liked the

Sip
Want a pub or bar feel but with the kids in tow? The Red Antler has nightly entertainment, comfy couches, even a giant Jenga game to entertain while you enjoy the band or karaoke.
Take the kids to The Goody Box for some sweet treats before you head for a later karaoke to keep them smiling all evening.
Play
After a day of skiing, you can bowl at the only ski-in-ski-out bowling alley in the mountains, enjoy a hot tub, skate on the pond and even book a horse-drawn carriage for dinner (Friday and Saturday evenings). Don’t forget to set aside an afternoon or evening for Tube Town; more on that here.
