Get Your Body Back After Baby: Tip #1, Water

Get Your Body Back After Baby: Water

This is the first of a five-part blog series titled, “Get Your Body Back After Baby” which is based on a past School of Mom Facebook chat session, where I discussed “Five Tips to Get Your Body Back After Baby”. The following is taken from chat transcript, where I discussed Tip #1: Water.

Water

I know – when is she going to get to the good stuff? Water is boring, and besides, everybody knows about water!

Well, that may be the case, but the fact of the matter is the vast majority of us are chronically dehydrated, and this affects us more negatively than we realize.

This is particularly important for the pregnant and breastfeeding mamas! Because you are growing and sustaining other humans, your need for water is greater.

Dehydration leads to water retention and weight gain, plain and simple. I won’t get into too much detail during this chat, but suffice it to say that when your body starts to get the water that it requires, it will start to release the unnecessary water weight that it’s been hanging onto for “self preservation”.

Like everything, this is not going to be a quick fix. In order for your body to understand that it is no longer going to be dehydrated, you have to be consistent. Start by slowly increasing your water intake until you are drinking at least 8 cups of water a day. This is the bare minimum for survival, ladies!

If you want more detail about the relationship between water and weight loss, please read my article: Water for Weight Loss.

By drinking enough water, you will have more energy, muscular strength, clearer thinking, less aches and pains (since your joints will be properly lubricated), softer skin and healthier hair, clearer eyes, and it may help you feel more satiated which may help curb excess snacking! It will also keep you REGULAR, which is a HUGE factor in weight loss.

I hope this was useful! Stay tuned for Tip #2: Nutrition.
