How Does She Do It: Modern Mama’s own Courtney Hunter

Courtney Hunter and Family HDSDI

We are so excited about our latest feature How Does She Do It! Every few months we’ll interview and feature a ‘Celebrity Mom’! In between we’ll feature ALL moms (You! Please apply here!)

Now that you’ve seen how celebrity moms Robyn Hardy and Lorraine Pond from Bobs and Lolo do it, we are thrilled to introduce you to our very own Lethbridge Community Director Courtney Hunter!

Are you an Urban or Suburban Mama, where do you live?

Suburban – Oh my goodness, I can’t believe I’m a Suburban Mama!!! I live in Lethbridge, in a new community called Copperwood. The canola field out my back window keeps us grounded to our country roots.

Tell us about your children (how many, how old?)

I have a boy who ticked over the big #1 on August 16th.

Tell us about your typical weekday.

Typically, we get up to the sound of our boy chattering away in baby ‘goos’ and ‘gahs’ at about 6:30am. As a WAHM, my work fits in around my boy’s day, which consists eating, exploring, creating mess, singing (o-o-ohhh), giggling, dancing (bouncing while holding onto the couch), napping and playing. I aim to squeeze in all the work that requires concentration while he’s napping; otherwise I’m chasing him around the house trying to stop him from injuring himself or destroying anything.

Do you have help?

YES! My gorgeous husband and I share the load as evenly as we can, given his hectic work schedule. He is a key player in our current game of weaning from breastfeeds – an interesting experience involving good days and average days, steps forward, then inevitably steps back…

We also found a babysitter when Linc was about 8 months old. Living on the other side of the world to the rest of our family made time to ourselves a little difficult, so we contact her whenever we need a date night.

Who cooks dinner?

Mostly I do, but hubby’s not afraid of the oven. He makes a mean steak salad and is our resident scone baker.

How often do you buy something for just you?

Often! Probably best I don’t comment beyond that!

Do you exercise regularly and if so, what and how do you fit it in?

Yoga and Zumba once a week (not at the same time) keep me focused and sane. My local gym has a child care service that keeps baby occupied while I work out.

We also like to go for walks as a family and very much enjoy the beautiful family-friendly parks of Lethbridge.

What clothing lines/stores do you like to buy for your child(ren)?

With our fast growing little champion, we’re all about clothes that are built for speed. We scope out the sales at Hudson’s Bay, Gap, The Children’s Place and Old Navy. By far, my favourite item of his clothes is his Red Converse shoes – which sadly, are becoming a little tight on his furiously growing feet!

Complete the following:

I’m totally obsessed with…my iPhone.

Three things in my purse right now …purse?  I gave that up for a diaper bag a long time ago!  3 things – Diapers, wipes and sunscreen

My favorite drugstore buy is….vegemite .  Seriously, get some at London Drugs.

My guilty pleasure is….Nutella on a spoon straight from the jar.  Now you know all my secrets!
