The all new 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum is the most luxurious Ford ever. They bumped up the wow-factor in styling, options and interior in this new top-level model.
We took the Explorer Platinum up to through the mountains, on the Coquihalla Highway to Silver Star Mountain recently. I was, of course, a little nervous about mountain driving in January as we haven’t done it in years. The amount of snow at the mountain and highway peeks is unreal.
So we jam-packed this truck and hit the road with the massaging seats on. (Yes, you read that right, there are driver and front passenger massaging seats!)
The girls enjoyed the heated back seats during our cold-weather adventure. I especially liked the white leather interior. You may think they stain easily, but snacks and crumbs are visible and wipe nicely. Plus I love how clean and modern it appears.
With plenty of outlets, both in the rear and on the well-organized console, we were able to charge our collection of devices for the kids and for our music throughout the weekend.
The rear moon roof was appreciated on our drive up since it was a clear sunny day, the girls got the best views of mountain tops and snow cover.
I loved how the dash showed what song we were listening to, the current locally posted speed limit and fuel history and prediction to next fill. This last feature was helpful on the long mountain passes we drove that are void of fuel stations.
Overall, the Ford Explorer met all of my must-haves:
- leather upholstery
- back-up camera
- push-button lift-gate
- USB connection
- heated seats
- power sun roof
- Fits in my garage
- six-passenger seating
However, it was a tight squeeze for us to fit everything in the vehicle for a weekend away.
The price as driven was just above $63,000 which works out to about $835 per month over 7 years according to the Cars.com Auto Loan Calculator.
