We recently had the opportunity to drive the 2018 Acura MDX Tech model for a week. I’ve driven 2015, 2016, 2017, and now 2018 varying models of the MDX. I will say my initial reaction is that I love the evolution of the body style, particularly the front grill. Just look at the modern look now compared to 2015:
For 2018, Acura has the base model, Navi, Tech, Elite, Elite 6 passenger, and Sport Hybrid.
The Tech model boasts a 9″ display Entertainment DVD system and an ELS Studio 529 Watt stereo system including subwoofer, Auto-dimming power side rear-view mirrors, auto-leveling headlamps (headlights), heated second-row seats, second-row keyless entry, rear slide sunshades and an AC power outlet. You will get all of this in addition to all the features on the lower base and Navi model features.
It’s a larger vehicle, it seats seven. It seats 3 in the second row and an additional 2 in the fold-away third row. However, with that third row in use, there is very little cargo space, if any.
I prefer seven-seaters have 3 seats in the third row and two captain seats in the second row so that it’s easier to climb in and out when you’re with more than two children. (If you’re looking for this feature, look to almost any model of mini-van, the Buick Enclave, some Chevrolet Suburbans, and GMC Yukon, and the Infiniti QX60).
If you love the MDX but don’t need 7-seater, look to the all-new redesigned 2019 Acura RDX. It’s a younger, sporty version of the MDX.
Of course, it includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but I found the two screens to be somewhat redundant.
I prefer the surround view upper models offer (move up to the Elite model, and there it is), but of course, this backup camera coverage still does the trick to reverse safely.
Acura always does a great job of placement on their steering wheel. I love to control my music, songs and volume right on the steering wheel (left side wheel operates with a push, tilt and scroll motion).

All models have amazing safety features including child seat tethers in both the second and third row seating, child-proof rear door locks, collision mitigation (auto-braking) system and lane keep warning/assist plus so much more.
Acura vehicles have high re-sale value, high-quality performance, and design, and will provide a safe ride for you and your children, in my opinion. I loved having my Honda Odyssey for many years, Acura just takes it up a notch!
The Acura MDX fits in your standard garage, always includes leather upholstered seats, and starts at $54,090.
