Having Baby #2, What To Keep and What To Purge

9646479014_36d01425b8_z (1)When you are welcoming baby number 2 (or 3 or more!) you need to decide what you’re keeping and what you’re purging while growing your family.

The Nursery

Unless your crib converted for your first child’s current bed, you’ll be using the same crib, change table and rocking chair you had before. There are plenty of ways to repurpose those items should you want to spruce up the look. Use paint and new bedding and drapery to give the nursery a whole new look.

If your original nursery’s bedding and drapery is still in good condition or is a well-known brand or designer, you can re-sell it on local sites. If you are donating, check out my post about where to donate items to here.

Bedding brands that re-sell well

(start your asking price at 50% of retail):

  • Dwell Studio
  • Loli Living
  • Sweet Kyla
  • Zutano
  • Oilo Studio
  • Lambs & Ivy
  • Kidsline
  • Carter’s

The Gear

Keep your single stroller, (you’ll use it again as your children grow) but invest in a new double stroller. There are plenty out there that can go from single to double as well.

It’s time to invest in a new carseat. You can re-use your infant carseat, but your convertible will be used for your first child until they are 40lbs (for my girls, this was towards the end of Kindergarten and about 6 years old).

Layette

Here is where you will be doing the majority of the purging. All white undershirts, sleepers and onesies will likely be stained so they need to go in the trash.

When your second (or third +) child comes along and isn’t the same gender as your first, you’ll want to buy new outfits for sure! Check out my post here on what items in your first child’s 1-2 year wardrobe can be sold or donated.
