Christmas Tree Playdough

Well the weather outside is not so frightful but it is nice to have activities to keep the kiddos busy inside too! I introduced my little ones to this box of decorations and some homemade playdough and they played with it for long periods of time (it’s been a hit since I made it – only a short time ago).

I found most of the mini ornaments at our local dollar store and I also cut beaded necklaces into strips to be used as garland but you could use whatever you like. I picked the container up at a craft store and purposely chose something that keeps all of the ornaments separated so that the children will have to sort all the materials back into their “spots”. This activity is also great for improving fine motor skills since the items are so small and require a pinch grip to pick each item up.

Little hands hard at work = the kids don’t realize they are learning but they are having fun + Mama can get something done!

We used homemade playdough but the stuff from the store works great too! This is the recipe we used:

  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1/2 cup Salt
  • 1 Tbsp Oil (I used vegetable but any will do)
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • A few drops of peppermint essential oil (optional)
  • Combine the above ingredients until they come together.

Have fun!
