The weekend is upon us once again and as true Edmonotonians we must embrace the cold weather and go have some fun! Here is a round up of what is happening for families in Edmonton this weekend:

Ice on Whyte

This weekend marks the 13th Annual Ice on Whyte, Ice Carving Festival! January 21st is family day and there will be a mardi gras parade, activities and games for children; the festival continues through the weekend and children are welcome to attend at that time as well!

When: January 21st to 24th

Cost: Adults $7 | Children (2 to 12): $4 | Children under 2: FREE

NBA All Star Kidsfest

“Discover the fun and excitement of the NBA as a family. Join NBA Legends, Dancers, and Mascots in a festival atmosphere and get closer to the game with unprecedented access to the NBA.” More details here.

When: January 22nd | 5:30 to 8 pm
Where: YMCA Castledowns

Ice Castles

Visit the Ice Castles while they are here; this spectacular display is one you won’t want to miss!

When: December 30th until March
Where: Hawrelak Park

Winter Family Fun Day

Winter Family Fun Day is a day to experience the wonder of the out doors; there will be snow painting, snow shoeing, snow fort building, hot chocolate and more!

When: January 23rd | 1 to 4 pm
Where: Ekota Rink (Knottwood Community League)
Cost: FREE

Lunar New Year

Enjoy Lunar New Year at the Conservatory and celebrate the Year of the Monkey! Take in the new Pyramid display, make a rattle drum, take home a jade plant, try out traditional Chinese games and more.

When: January 23rd | 4 to 8 pm
Where: Muttart Conservatory
Cost: Regular Admission Applies

Edmonton Public Library

Every week the Edmonton Public Library offers a variety of activities suitable for the whole family at each branch; you can find what is happening near you here.

Where: Various locations (Edmonton)

Reel Family Cinema

The Metro Cinema offers a family movie on a regular basis, this weekend’s ‘Reel Family Cinema’ features: The Land Before Time.

When: January 23rd | 2 pm

Cost: Regular admission applies to adults | Children 12 and under are FREE

Family Literacy Carnival

The Family Literacy Carnival is a great place to wander, explore and have fun; there will be various themes and activities for you and your little one to explore! All the details here.

Cost: FREE

Winter Sunday Brunch

Enjoy a scrumptious Brunch at historic Hotel Selkirk before taking a walk through History at Fort Edmonton Park.

When: January 24th
Where: Fort Edmonton Park
Cost: $32.95 Adults | $19.95 Children (Age 4 to 12 years) | FREE for Children under 4 — Brunch includes admission to the Park.

Swing ‘n’ Skate

Swing ‘n’ Skate features live music (swing, jazz and big band) in City Hall which will be projected outside for skaters to enjoy!

Cost: FREE, please note free skate rentals are available on a first come, first served basis
