Ft. McMurray – How To Help

alberta strong

Like all Albertans, I’ve been watching the terror unfold in Ft. McMurray.  Many people across Canada have ties to the city and many even have friends and family who have been affected by the fires.  Everyone wants to help but many don’t know how.  If you’re looking to help, here are some of the best ways:

The Canadian Red Cross – Accepts cash donations online or text REDCROSS to 30333 to make a $5 donation.

Edmonton Emergency Relief Services – A call has been put out for donations and volunteers. Specifically, they are collecting diapers, baby wipes, NEW toiletries (such as soap, shampoo, tampons, toothpaste etc.) and NEW socks and underwear.  Take your donations to the ERS offices, downtown Edmonton (10255 104th Street). They will distribute them where they are needed most.  If you’d like to volunteer, please call 780-428-4422. Please leave a message, and they’ll get back to you.

Edmonton Food Bank – Accepting food donations to be distributed to evacuees in the Edmonton area.  They will also accept monetary donations online.

For Mac Recovers – This site is designed to facilitate community preparedness and recovery. Residents can request help or sign up to donate and volunteer.

Facebook Help Pages – The following pages were created to help connect those in need and those willing to help.
-Fort McMurray Evacuee Open Source Help Page
-Fort McMurray evac relocation help group
-Fort Mac Fire Donations

If you are or know of a family affected by the fires, there is a list of local resources on The Edmonton Journal website offering free or discounted meals, entertainment, storage, housing, pet needs, children with medical conditions, medicinal needs, financial assistance, and much more!

My thoughts are with all of those who have been affected by this and please donate if you can.
