Celebrate the special connection with your little love
Last weekend my little love and I met with Lauren Miller, natural light photographer, founder of Astrid Miller Photography at Granville Island. It happens to be my favourite place in the city and so it was perfect for a photo shoot.
The weather couldn’t have been better on this Spring day, the light perfect for our session at this time in the morning. Lauren had everything planned so it was nice to just relax and go along for the ride. It turns out she knew exactly the spots that would capture the mood I was looking for.
The market had just opened and was still quiet but we knew the peacefulness wouldn’t last long so we chose tulips together and made our way outside to capture the perfect light.
With Mother’s Day coming up this weekend Lauren thought that a flower theme would be a beautiful yet simple way to celebrate it but little did she know that she couldn’t have chosen a better method or prop to engage my little guy.
His fascination is mine too.
One of the first special memories I have of my son was his fascination for flowers at a very young age. Wherever we went he’d stop along the way to sniff each and every daffodil, crocus or any brightly coloured flower really, remarking on how good they smelled. Whether they did or not.
I can’t tell you how his love of nature and such simple things makes my heart sing. It’s easy to forget along the way how important the little things are.
It’s clear at nearly four years old that he hasn’t changed. I fall in love a little more each day.
We really didn’t need to go far before we found the perfect spot to snap some more lovely photos. Both my son and I love to be near the water and so the houseboats on the northeast side of the market was the perfect location.
And it couldn’t have been more perfect to be able to open and close every one of the sixteen gaily painted letter boxes one by one!
And of course no venture to Granville Island would be complete without a wander over to the Kid’s Market. We saved that for last, knowing that our little man would want to spend most of his time there. And of course he has to drive the boat!
Lauren is just so good at capturing the personality of our little guy. He’s so full of energy and enthusiasm and yet has an incredibly sweet and gentle side that makes my heart melt. Every. Time.
Don’t you just want to eat him up?
