Giving Tuesday was born and incubated at the 92nd Street Y and its Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact in New York City. Giving Tuesday is now an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity

- 0.0.3 This movement has inspired countless businesses to factor giving back as a major part of their brand. Here at Modern Mama, we would love to highlight this generosity by shining the spotlight on these exceptional companies. On the first Tuesday of every month, we will post a “Giving Tuesday” blog featuring a Canadian company that has made it their mission to give back. If you are a company that would like to be featured, or would like to nominate one, please contact me at Lesley@modernmama.com.
- 0.0.4 This month we are highlighting Cuddle + Kind, a company founded by a family who not only support incredible women artisans in Peru and Nepal, providing them with a sustainable, fair trade income with their quality, hand-crafted dolls, but also provide meals to children in need with every purchase.

- 3.0.1 1.) Every child deserves enough food to eat and the opportunity to thrive. It’s what motivated us to start cuddle+kind and it’s why we give 10 meals to children in need for every doll sold.
- 3.0.2 2.) Every child deserves an education and needs the energy to learn. It’s why we believe in and support school meal programs around the world.
- 3.0.3 3.) Every child deserves the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty they were born into. Good nutrition and an education are the keys to this opportunity.
- 3.0.4 4.) Girls and women should be empowered. Childhood hunger and malnutrition disproportionally affects girls. School meal programs help increase the number of girls who are sent to school to get both a meal and an education.
- 3.0.5 5.) All the people who make our dolls deserve to be treated with fairness, dignity and kindness. We are committed to ethical production, which means all our artisans are empowered with equitable, sustainable employment and are paid a fair trade wage.

The Founders
We’re a family of five on a mission to help feed children in need.
With a background in health, we recognize the crucial role nutrition plays in a child’s development. As parents, we believe all children should have enough food to eat and the opportunity to thrive, so when we saw a documentary on the devastating impact of childhood hunger on millions of children around the world, it inspired us to help. On that day, we decided to start a company whose purpose is to help improve the lives of children and to make a difference. We wanted to create a sustainable stream of giving that wouldn’t rely on donations.
Since September 2015, we’re thrilled that your purchases have helped provide over 22 million meals to children in need!

Ethical production
Cuddle+kind dolls are lovingly hand-knit, hand-loomed, embroidered and crocheted by skilled artisans in Peru using knitting expertise that has been handed down for generations. We are proud to support over 750 artisans with sustainable, equitable, fair trade employment. We ensure that rural working mothers have access to flexible hours and are paid fairly for their work. This allows our knitters to care for their families, plan for their futures and for many, it brings meaningful change to their lives.
Heirloom quality & sustainability
The premium cotton yarn used to hand-knit our dolls is grown, spun and dyed in Peru, providing a circular economy that supports local industry. Our cotton has six times the rate of harvest of conventional plants, and uses less water, making it more sustainable to grow. All yarn is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, guaranteeing that the dye and processing of our yarn is safe for little ones and the artisans who knit our dolls.
