Healthy Frozen Treats for Summer

Grapes

By: Shauna Robertson

With the weather warming up, its time to find healthy ways to cool down! Here are five of my favourite healthy frozen treats.

Frozen Grapes

This is an easy one and so tasty! Skewer grapes on a wooden BBQ skewer (If you don’t have one just put them in a bowl). Place in freezer bag and freeze for an easy, quick snack. An added bonus is that you can use them as ice cubes that don’t water down your drinks. Added bonus, frozen blueberries are also delicious!

Avocado Lime Popsicles

I love avocados! This would also be great with coconut almond milk for a creamy popsicle.

Ingredients

• 1/2 Cup Agave nectar

• 1 Cup warm water

• 2 Avocados diced

• 3-4 TBSP fresh lime juice

• 1 pinch salt

How to Make

  1. Dissolve agave in warm water, pour into blender
  2. Add remaining ingredients
  3. Blend until smooth
  4. Pour into moulds, fill about 1/3″ from the top (makes 8)
  1. Freeze 6 hours and Enjoy!

Banana “Ice Cream”

Banana Ice Cream

This recipe has one ingredient – Bananas! Well, if you want to get creative you can add peanut butter or Nutella or chocolate but if you want to keep it healthy and basic, all you need is bananas.

How to Make

  1. Peel your bananas and cut them into small pieces.
  2. Freeze for 1-2 hours.
  3. Blend, blend, blend – scraping down the bowl when they stick.

Enjoy your delicious frozen treat!

Frozen Mango on a Stick

Mango on a stick

Another one with just one ingredient – Mango but it’s a bit more involved since it involves the use of a power drill! I just love mangoes because they taste like candy.

How to Make

  1. Drill hole through the pit of the mango and insert a wooden stick.
  2. Peel Mango and place on plate or wrap in plastic wrap and stick in the freezer
  3. Freeze for 2 hours

Yum, deliciousness on a stick!

Berry Watermelon Smoothie

Slushies

I love Slushies but store bought ones are filled with so much sugar! Here is a delicious alternative.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen watermelon (cut watermelon into chunks and freeze for an hour or two on a cookie sheet)
  • 1 1/2 – 2 cups of strawberries (or Blueberries, blackberries, raspberries or a mix!), fresh or frozen
  • 2 – 3 tablespoons raw honey, to taste
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup water (may need more if strawberries are frozen)

How to Make

Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend together until smooth and slushie! Adjust by adding more water if it’s too thick, especially if you’re using frozen strawberries.

Now you’re ready to fill the inflatable backyard pool, kick back and enjoy a frozen treat.
