It’s time for another How Does She Do It! We are thrilled to introduce you to Joyelle Brandt from Port Moody, British Columbia.
Are you an Urban or Suburban Mama, where do you live?
Suburban Mama. I live in a fabulous neighbourhood in Port Moody where I can walk to the grocery store, library and recreation centre from my house.
Tell us about your children (how many, how old?)
I have two boys, age 7 and 2. They compete for the title of Greatest House Destroyer on a daily basis.
Tell us about your typical weekday.
My older son is in grade two, and my youngest son goes to daycare Monday, Wednesday and Friday. So my days alternate between full mommy mode and full artist mode (www.joyellebrandt.com) On mommy days it’s all play dates and parks, and on artist days it’s all paint and computer work. It’s the perfect balance for me right now.
Do you have help?
I looooove my daycare ladies. They are just amazing at what they do, and I know my little one is in good hands with them. I also love my cleaning lady, who comes twice a month. I am really blessed to have this help.
Who cooks dinner?
Generally me, although my husband can crank out a wicked home made Mac n cheese on request.
How often do you buy something for just you?
As often as possible! I am not much on having a lot of stuff, but experiences are wonderful. Like getting my toenails painted or going out to hear some live music. That is pure joy!
Do you exercise regularly and if so, what and how do you fit it in?
I just started back at exercising. I bike and practice poi 3-4 times a week. This fits into my life because my older son can come with me for a bike ride to the park, and then while he is playing I practice poi . I love that I have finally found a way to fit exercise into my life that I enjoy!
What clothing lines/stores do you like to buy for your child(ren)?
Whatever is on sale! They grow too fast. And what is with the holes in the knees? How do they do that?

I’m totally obsessed with… Microwave chocolate cake in a mug.
Three things in my purse right now … A copy of the children’s book I just wrote, lip balm, and mini m&ms.
My favorite drugstore buy…. Anti-frizz hair cream. I go through it like crazy!
My guilty pleasure is…. I don’t really believe in having guilty pleasures. Life is short, and often hard. I’ll take any pleasure I can get.
