{Parent/Child Relationships} Starting the Conversations Young

In my opinion, the basis for all relationships is communication, and communication is something I practice with my children every day. I was really fortunate to be raised by an amazing Mom who was always ready to listen to my problems, big and small and I hope to be able to offer that to my children as well. So my hope is that by talking, talking, talking about everything now will translate into that in the future! I want them to know now (and always) that I am available to listen to them and that they can trust me with whatever they want to talk about.

Family Time

As our lives have become more hectic with work schedules, school schedules and activities I find our family is always going somewhere, often in a rush and often short on time. I’m sure most of you can relate, right?!To combat this we set aside a chunk of time each day (at least 30 minutes) to talk about our days/read/watch a show and connect; of course, we plan for more family time on the weekends and often enjoy a movie night together. My children are almost six, four and three and while our movie/show picks will evolve over the years, I hope that our time together doesn’t change too much. I really believe that spending time together now is building our relationship for years to come.

I recently watched 13 Reasons Why and if you haven’t watched it yet, I would highly recommend it. Now it is important to mention that it isn’t easy to watch, it’s heavy and sad and focuses on teen suicide but all in all, I believe it is worth the watch. After I finished the series, I really had to unpack everything that had happened, and really consider how this happens to teens on a daily basis. Bullying has taken on a new form and as a parent, I feel scared for what the future holds. I can only hope that I can build a strong relationship with my children now so that they can feel supported through their lives and hopefully have a great teenage experience.

I recently watched this video and I just love the messaging in it, have a watch and let me know what you think!
