Let’s face it, these days screens are absolutely unavoidable out in the real world. While, they have certainly made life more convenient there is just something about experiences in real time. The satisfaction you get from making something with your own two hands instead of clicking add it cart. I know it dates me but I miss how simple life was and how our kids are missing out on that world. If you feel the same and want to give your kids a taste of the good old days then Heritage Park summer camps are exactly what you’re looking for!
About Heritage Park
For generations, Heritage Park has been a place where Calgary families come to make memories while stepping back in time. As one of Canada’s largest living history museums, Heritage Park brings the stories of Western Canada to life through interactive experiences, historic buildings, and hands-on learning. From riding a steam train and exploring Gasoline Alley Museum to meeting costumed interpreters and enjoying special events throughout the year, there is always something new to discover. With a unique blend of history, adventure, and fun, Heritage Park offers experiences that spark curiosity and create lasting memories for visitors of all ages.
Heritage Park Summer Camps
Heritage Park offers 3 different summer camps to ensure it suits your child’s age and interests. Those camps are Prairies Explorer Day Camp (ages 6-9), Time Travelers Day Camp ( ages 10-13), and Home on the Range Overnight Camp (ages 12-15). No matter which camp you choose you know they are getting an incredibly immersive experience! Our favorite camp option definitely has to be the Home on the Range Overnight Camp. It’s so rare to find an overnight camp that offers such an adventure so close to home.
Home on the Range Overnight Camp

As parents, we often wonder how to pull our kids away from screens and encourage them to embrace new experiences. Home on the Range offers exactly that. Trading notifications for campfires, kids have the opportunity to disconnect from the world as they know it and step back in time. While many may be hesitant to put their phones away, this is the kind of adventure that creates memories they’ll talk about for years to come.
Reading about history and experiencing it firsthand are two very different things. There is something special about learning by doing, and getting your hands a little dirty along the way. From caring for ranch animals to cooking on a wood-burning stove, campers aren’t simply learning about the past—they’re living it.
There are sure to be many firsts when attending the Home on the Range camp such as sleeping in a real bunkhouse, touring Heritage Park after dark, taking care of ranch animals, and much more. Combining adventure, hand-on learning, and history is the perfect way to capture a child’s attention and turn learning into an experience they’ll remember long after summer ends.
