Highly Recommend the Fraser Valley Academy of Dance

Mr. Carney is pointing out the techniques of the older dancers to the younger dancers for inspiration.

Fraser Valley Academy of Dance is under the artistic direction of John Carney. Mr. Carney trained full-time at the Royal Ballet School in London, England, followed by a 17-year career as a professional dancer with the English National Ballet and Rambert Dance Company. He has performed around the world, working with numerous notable dancers, teachers and choreographers. In 2011, FVAD launched their Pre-Professional Academy Program, providing the most talented dance students with an exceptional opportunity to train on a daily basis while completing their high school academics. The studio is located in Mission, BC. Students have attended the Academy from Mission, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Langley and Maple Ridge. Students have traveled as far as Japan and United States to attend FVAD for their summer intensives as well as pre-professional academy. Pre-professional ballet students, who have trained here, have been invited into prestigious full-time and summer intensives at Canada’s National Ballet School, Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Rambert Academy of Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance, School of Alberta Ballet, Randolph Academy of Performing Arts, Joffrey Ballet School and many others.

My daughter has danced here for the last seven years. Ballet has been something that taught her to follow her passions, goal-setting, team-work, listening skills, and given her life-long memories. This studio really treats every student like family and nurtures everyone to their full potential. The studio follows the same schedule as a typical school so the first week back-to-school is also first week back to ballet. As a mom I like that we get to adjust to both at once. FVAD has a store located within the school so it makes shopping for class attire easy and affordable. They offer a wide variety of second hand products that have been passed down from older students. For year end recitals and Nutcracker, for those who choose to perform, there are no costume fees which is another unique and fantastic thing about this studio. As someone completely bias, the performances put on by this school are so well put together and organized that you forget the children are not hired professionals.
