It’s May long weekend! What some consider the “unofficial” start to summer. This is usually the time you can plant your gardens, set up your seasonal campsite or hopefully enjoy the warm weather outside. There are a ton of fun things happening in Winnipeg this weekend. Here’s my short list of things worth checking out with the fam jam:
Family Expo & Kids Fair
Enjoy an Alice in Wonderland themed afternoon with the family at this expo. Expect tons of kids’ activities, special guests, story time, family Zumba and a Wonderland market with local vendors.

Buffalo Barbeque
Visit this St. James legacy, the Buffalo Barbeque, presented by Wonder Shows. Carnival rides, including 3 new ones for 2017, carnival food and fireworks on Saturday.

St. Norbert Farmer’s Market Opening Day
May Long Weekend marks the official opening of the St. Norbert Farmer’s Market. Support local farmers and vendors at Winnipeg’s largest market. Opening day they will have over 110 vendors, fiddlers, cake, performers and dancers.
When: Saturday, May 20th, 8am-3pm

Prairie Dog Central Railway Great Train Robbery
Visit the historical PDC Railway for an interactive ride while trying to outrun Bonnie & Clyde on the way to Grosse Isle. Enjoy food, live music and donations go towards Helping Hands for Manitobans with Breast Cancer.
When: Sunday, May 21st, 11am-2:45pm

Lightning McQueen’s Canadian Road Trip
Disney Cars Lightning McQueen is touring Canada and his Winnipeg stop is this weekend at Canadian Tire. Visit Polo Park CT on Saturday or Grant Park on Sunday. Have your photo taken, test your motor skills at a remote control racecar track and enjoy arts and crafts.
When: Saturday, May 20th – Sunday, May 21st

Fort Whyte Alive Free Fishing Weekend
Try out fishing at Fort Whyte for the opening of Fishing Season. Or just enjoy the grounds and check out the Bisons.
When: Friday, May 19th – Sunday, May 21st
Where: Fort Whyte Alive – 1961 McCreary Rd.
How much: General admission $8 adults, $6 children, 2 and under free, fishing fees are waived all weekend
