It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Welcome to Around Vancouver Town Christmas Edition. This is the final edition of the year but if you missed the last one, it’s here! There’s lots going on around Vancouver Town for Christmas this year so we’ve chosen the highlights for you.
20th Annual Winter Solstice Secret Lantern Festival
Come together with friends and family! Warm your bellies with their signature Dragon Spice holiday tea and a delicious hot bun, and warm your hearts with the breathtaking landscape. Lantern artists reimagine the beauty of the Garden with whimsical and spectacular pieces while diverse performers take the stage throughout the evening.

Cavalia Odyesseo
Cavalia brings together the equestrian arts, stage arts and high-tech theatrical effects in an unbelievable show. Cavalia’s Odysseo features 63 horses and 47 artists in a massive theatrical production that sends hearts racing. This breathtaking ode to horse and man, imagined by one of the co-founders of Cirque du Soleil, is an absolute feast for the eyes that succeeds in delivering the spectacular with soul.
I wrote a post about this spectacular event on VancouverMom.ca. I went to the show the last time they were in town and it was absolutely stunning. And it brings back fond memories of a girl and a horse. Me! I’m the girl..oh never mind.

Gingerbread Lane at the Hyatt Regency
More than 40 gingerbread houses make up the cheerful display in the hotel lobby of the Hyatt Regency. Previous years have included a life-size gingerbread house designed, baked, and assembled by the hotel’s pastry chef. Best of all, the event is free and a fundraiser.
The gingerbread houses are submitted by a range of participants, from schools and businesses to the pastry arts department at Vancouver Community College.

The Twelve Days of Christmas Music at Robson Square
Join the holiday fun at Robson Square, and enjoy some of the season’s best music from a variety of performers.

Christmas Presence
A favourite holiday tradition takes its rightful place on the main stage. An all-you-can-eat feast of music and stories, served up new every night by a different line-up of PT’s most beloved musicians and performers.

A Charlie Brown Christmas ~ A Little Jazz and Joy
Add a little jazz to your Christmas joy this year. Let Charlie Brown the other Peanuts characters lead you though their holiday dilemmas towards finding the true spirit of the season. The jazz is provided by the Choir and its stellar Vancouver jazzers Michael Creber and Jodi Proznick performing the songs of Vince Guaraldi and other holiday fare. The Peanuts are served up by Pippa Johnstone, Peter Carlone and John Voth – actors from Pacific Theatre. As a prelude, there will be some Renaissance Christmas madrigals and songs. And you won’t want to miss out on the tasty “Pie Carols”!

Seussical
CTYP’s beloved holiday musical is back due to audience demand! Horton the Elephant reminds us that a person’s a person, no matter how small when he befriends young Jojo and saves Whoville. Along the way, Mayzie LaBird, the Sour Kangaroo and everyone in the Jungle of Nool learn that it takes a community working together to solve problems. This award-winning production will have families laughing and dancing in their seats.

Fly Over Canada
See Canada like never before at Vancouver’s new must-see attraction! At its core, FlyOver Canada is a breathtaking, all-ages, flight simulation ride like no other! You will take off into a huge dome screen with the latest in projection and ride technology creating a true flying experience (complete with wind, scents, and mist!).

Wesbrook Holiday Family Movies
Tis’ the Season to enjoy family friendly holiday movies at the Wesbrook Welcome Centre. On Dec 18th they’re showing our family’s favourite, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I think I know it by heart now, but that makes it more fun!
