Edmonton Kids: What to do this Weekend (September 1 to 4)

The morning air is cool and for many of us the kids are going (or have already gone) back to school but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy weekends with the family! There are so many awesome events happening in Edmonton and area this weekend and since it’s a long weekend we have an extra day to take advantage of all of these:

Harvest Festival

The Reynolds-Alberta Museum is hosting their annual Harvest Festival – a chance to explore both the indoor and outdoor attractions at the museum. “The farm machinery is humming and the ovens are hot, so bring the whole family and celebrate the historic sights, sounds and smells of bringing in the harvest! Harvest Fair

Fort Edmonton Park invites you to embrace the changing seasons with their annual Harvest Fair! There will be a variety of activities happening throughout the Park and it promises to be fun for the whole family.

“Summer is almost over, but there’s still time for fun and adventure! Join us as we prepare for the change of seasons, just as our forebears have done for decades. It’s a time for celebrating the fruits of our labour and kicking up our heels before the leaves fall. Unplug, get your hands dirty, eat some pie, and spend time with friends and family.”

Corn Fest

This corn festival is a family event with a cornucopia of corny activities including corn eating contests, corn mazes, face painting, corny jokes, veggie art and more. The festival features the Kids Maze and Mindbender Kids Corn Mazes, folk music, and hands-on corn craft activities for children.

Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve Star Party

“Taking place over two days at two different locations, the Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve’s 12th annual Star Party will be your gateway to the stars. Featuring volunteer astronomers to provide you with stargazing tips, guest speakers to cause you to marvel at the sky, and local musical performances to fill the air with festive spirit, this 2-day event will keep your whole family entertained.”

Watercolour Fall Leaves

For the month of September, your children can attend a craft making workshop at Micheals Canada – each week features a different craft and this weekend it will be Watercolour Fall Leaves. Find the details here.

Cineplex Family Favourite

Did you know that every Saturday there is a “Family Favorites” movie showing at various Cineplex Theatres; this week features the Premier of Power Rangers.

Edmonton Public Library

Multi-Cultural Talent & Fashion Show

Children are invited to participate in a multi cultural fashion show – wearing their cultural outfits; scholarship prizes will be awarded to a winner from each category.
