Before I met my husband I knew nothing about fishing but as an avid fisherman he took me on many fishing adventures when we were dating. His love of fishing has rubbed off on our kids and now he takes them on fishing adventures, that they all enjoy very much. Full disclosure: I sometimes tag along with them to take photos and provide snacks but overall fishing isn’t really my thing. However, I would suggest everyone try it before deciding if it’s their thing or not!
Perhaps you already know this {I had no idea!} but in order to go fishing in Alberta you must purchase a fishing license before heading out. It is actually illegal to fish without one and a person could face serious fines if they don’t follow the regulations.
This Weekend Only, Fish without a Fishing License
There are only two weekends in a year when you can fish in Alberta without a fishing license; Family Day weekend and the second weekend in July. So take advantage of the great weather this weekend and head out with your family for a little ice fishing! If you don’t have supplies you can check out the free Kids Can Catch event, where everything will be provided for you.
**Please note: Fishing Regulations Still Apply**
