I was recently asked if I would be interested in trying out the Walmart.ca Grocery Pickup service. If you are unfamiliar with this new service you can find more details on it here. Basically, you order your groceries in advance and pick them up at the store without having to actually leave your vehicle. Quite frankly, I jumped at the opportunity because I hate grocery shopping, of course, that is unless I can go by myself and wander through ALL the aisles without fearing the inevitable meltdowns of one or all of my children. As a busy Mom of three, solo shopping is a rare treat but I digress. So I went on to Walmart.ca and selected a grocery pickup location and time (you don’t have to start with this, you can choose your groceries first and then select a time if you prefer) and then I started selecting items for my order. First I chose the items that we purchase on a regular basis: eggs, Almond Milk, Country Harvest Bread, Thick Cut Bacon, and Apples; next I did a quick inventory of the fridge to see what other “staples” we were running low on.
When I stepped away from my desk to peek in the fridge, my middle guy snuck over to the computer and attempted to do a little shopping of his own. He managed to click the frozen food section before I noticed and thought he was hilarious for doing so; I thought it was pretty cute that he was so interested in the grocery shopping and decided to let him help me pick the rest of our order. It was really easy to find what we were looking for because everything is divided into categories; we started by searching the Fruits & Vegetables Category and ended with Pantry Food. As the parent who manages almost all of the grocery shopping, preparing and cooking, I always make sure that I am feeding my family good quality food and since Walmart Supercentres carry Canadian No.1 grade fruits and vegetables, an amazing selection of organic produce as well as 100% Canadian Angus beef, poultry, salmon, and pork and all at available low prices every day, I was feeling pretty confident in my decisions. In addition, all fresh groceries come with a 100% satisfaction, money back guarantee so if anything in my order wasn’t up to my standards it could easily be returned for a full refund. Once I had completed my order, I paid online and went about my day until it was time to pick up our groceries. (Alternatively, I could have picked up on the next day.)
When we arrived at our preferred Walmart, I parked in a Grocery Pickup parking spot and called the number on the sign. I spoke with a friendly team member who asked for my name and spot number; she then confirmed that she would be right out with my order. As the Walmart associate walked up she had a welcoming smile and was quick to greet me and introduce herself; after confirming who I was and having me electronically sign for my order she asked if I wanted everything loaded into the back of my truck. I confirmed that everything except for the bread and eggs could go in the back of my truck and she assured me that she would pass them to me when she came to them. **I have three small children, in car seats in the backseat of my vehicle so space is very limited so almost everything gets loaded in the back.**
Since this was my first time using this service, I was curious to see how my groceries would be handled and loaded into my vehicle and I have to say I was really impressed by the thought and care that was shown by this associate. After she had loaded everything into the back (and given me the eggs and bread to load in the front) she thanked me for using this service, gave me a coupon to use for next time and gave me a printed copy of my bill. I was so pleased by the whole exchange that I no longer had any doubt that my products would be just as good as what I would have selected myself. And I was basically on cloud 9 because I didn’t have to take three kids out of car seats, drag them around the store, corral them at the till and then through the parking lot all before loading everything in the truck and realizing I forgot one of the three things we actually went for. When we arrived home I unpacked the groceries and inspected everything to make sure it was what I wanted and I am pleased to say it was!
As you can see above the majority of our order was produce, meat, and dairy/eggs; in other words, products that need to be fresh and high quality. Every item in our order passed our test and I was so relieved that it did; I really loved the convenience of ordering online and having everything brought to our vehicle, knowing that our order was perfect was really the icing on the cake, so to speak. When I laid everything out on the table I realized something else too; not only did I get everything on my list but I got ONLY the items on my list, no extras, and no treats. I think this Walmart.ca Grocery Pickup is going to save us a lot of money on our grocery budget each week; I didn’t buy anything we didn’t need and I was able to take advantage of Walmart’s low prices without sacrificing quality.
I want you try it out yourself and let me know what you think! Use the PICKUP10 promo code before May 31, 2017 to save $10 off your order. To activate this go to Walmart.ca/grocerypromo. You’ll need an account, but that’ll be quick and easy to set up. (Note: promo codes are for online shopping only). Also be sure to try the new Walmart.ca App.
