Twice a month we interview Mom’s in our “How Does She Do It?” feature. If interested in participating please reach out on Facebook or Instagram. This week’s How Does She Do It? mama is Meri Temudo! She is a mother of two, a wife, and the owner of Lil Sugar a Canadian parenting and lifestyle blog!Be sure to follow her on Facebook and Instagram. Are you an Urban or Suburban Mama, where do you live?I am a suburban mom with an urban mom attitude who lives about 40mins from the Greater Toronto Area. I really am a city girl at heart, spent all of my college years in the city. We often travel to and from Toronto just to get some culture in when we can, I like the kids to see that there’s a great big world outside of our bubble. Our home however is our sanctuary, it’s laid back and relaxed. We really do have the best of both worlds.
Tell us about your children? My oldest who I often refer to as “Cookie” or “M” online is 14 and in his first year of high school. He’s a true academic and prides himself on his 90+ grades. He’s outgoing and proud, overall unique soul. My youngest, who I like to call “Neigh” or “A” online, is the polar opposite of his brother aside from academics. At 12 years old, he’s still as sweet as he was as a baby. He’s simple, happy and overall a lover of life. I’m a proud mama, can you tell? Don’t know how I got 2 smarties! Tell us about your typical weekday? My typical weekday is filled with chaos from the get go! I work online in addition to my personal social pages so I am pretty much attached to my phone from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed. The only time I stop is during the hours of 4-8pm because I like to spend family time without distractions. Do you have help?In terms of the everyday, no. I often joke that I’m a single parent because my husband works most evenings. As far as helicopter parenting goes, I am at the tip of the list so I don’t really rely on anyone to leave the kids to. I’m hands on, meals, laundry, shopping, cleaning, school work etc – it’s all me. I don’t mind it at all though. Who cooks dinner? Most of the time I do, the odd time my husband is home he will do it for me and that’s a real treat. Since COVID hit I’ve been taking extra advantage of his cooking skills, it’s been a huge weight off my shoulders.
How often do you buy something just for you? This is a trick question, do parents ever buy anything other than the necessities for themselves? LOL I think the last time I purchased something just for me would probably have been for an event or something, over a year ago! Do you exercise regularly and if so, what and how do you fit it in?I normally don’t exercise but we’ve recently invested in a treadmill so I’ve been maintaining on there. Mid afternoons work best for me, just after the kids are done school and before dinner. What clothing lines or stores do you like to buy for your children? When the kids were little I was sort of a baby wear snob. Only bought designer for them and my favourite brand was Burberry. I quickly realized that kids outgrow and ruin everything that you purchase and I turned to stores like Zara & H&M. They are now at the stage where they are trying to convince me to invest in their clothing once again. As they put it, they are men now and clothes are an investment LOL – not happening! Three things in my purse right now are…I don’t usually carry a purse, I have a wallet affixed to my phone so debit, credit and drivers licence. My favourite drugstore buy is?Rimmel London’s Stay Matte liquid lip colour in Pink Blink. Also, Fit Me Matt + Poreless Liquid foundation. Been wearing both of these for years, not turning back now! My guilty pleasure is?Potato Chips! Is there anything better than a salty, crunchy carb-filled chip? Seriously, if there’s a bowl of chips in front of me it will be gone in 3seconds flat! |
