This past Sunday, November 25th, we hosted our 2nd annual Modern Bump Lunch in Vancouver for expecting and new moms. I hope everyone that attended enjoyed the afternoon! The afternoon featured a great fashion show, 3-course lunch, speakers, and of course – PRIZES!
Here are a few highlights from the event:
The Prizes. Every mama in attendance went home with a great prize. Special thanks to our presenting sponsor WestCoast Kids for much of the amazing loot! Breast pumps, bouncy chairs, Boon bath products, and so much more. Thanks also to Jillian Kirby Photography for her generous photo package prize worth nearly $1000!
Mamas also went home with great swag bags featuring gift certificates from Tender Tushies (they make my FAVE bamboo diaper covers!), mini O-balls, and more.
The Fashion. Being pregnant with baby #2, I have found the maternity clothing selection in Vancouver seriously lacking! While it’s a drive into Richmond, Steveston Village Maternity is stocked up with beautiful and flattering maternity clothes for us pregnant ladies. Owner Beth Fairchild is pregnant herself with baby #2 and has tried many of the products in her shop. I was a volunteer “model” and she gave me a pair of black leggings as a gift…I have been living in them ever since!
Our speakers – pictured left is Kim Vopni, The Fitness Doula. I always enjoy her talks. Her goal is to help all pregnant moms prepare their core for childbirth and to recover correctly post-partum (hint: don’t get back to bootcamps at 6-weeks post-partum!). So much happens during your pregnancy and delivery – Kim provides personal assessments to get your body back into functioning shape post-baby. She’ll also do pre-natal assessments and offers the Epi-No and Pelvic Floor Pilates (PFilaties) as helpful options to prepare for delivery.
Another featured speaker was Christa Stubbington from Yoga Buttons Studio, which offers classes for babies (w/ parent participation), toddlers, kids, pre-natal yoga, and adult classes. As a boutique yoga studio, Yoga Buttons’ class sizes are smaller and you get more engagement with the class and teacher. The pre-natal classes focus on movements to help prepare the body for birth, as well as meditation and time with your baby as it grows. The studio also offers mom & baby yoga classes when your baby is 4 months old. Classes not only include massage and fun for baby, but mama also gets a little yoga in herself. A great way to bond with baby. Yoga Buttons specializes in classes for kids all the way up to 12 years old. I took my 2-year old son to a “Little Buttons” class and he had a great time. The class uses a lot of toys and books to engage the kids in different movements and yoga poses. My son was doing the tall “giraffe” from class for days afterwards!
Our final speaker of the day was Modern Mama owner Connie Peters, who provided all the mamas essential lists on what you need to prepare for the arrival of baby, both for the hospital and when you bring baby home.
This is such a special time for expecting mamas – I hope everyone who attended enjoyed it! Until next year!
