With our first ever B.C. Family Day coming up on Monday, February 11th and Valentines Day just a few days later, this week is shaping up to be a big one for families on the North Shore! Here’s our round-up of family-friendly activities, and ideas for a Valentines night out.

Sat, Feb 9th – Thurs Feb 14th – Valentine Globe & Painting Workshops
Location: 4Cats Art Studios, Queensbury, Edgemont, Deep Cove
Details: $25 to $45 per workshop. Sculpt your Valentine a robot with a heart – designed using a globe, a handful of glitter and a polymer clay character. Sculpt using professional clay tools & learn hand building techniques. And paint your Valentine a splatter painted masterpiece! Learn and explore using many abstract painting techniques – splatter, dripping and movement painting. (3-12 yrs)
Sun, Feb 10th (2:45 to 4:15 pm) – Valentines Day Workshop (6-12 yrs)
Location: Ron Andrews Rec Centre, North Van ($10.83)
Details: Say I Love You with a craft by making something special for your Valentine. Kids will be getting busy with fabric, paints, markers, glue and glitter to create works of art!
Mon, Feb 11th (1:00pm & 4:00pm) – Sweethearts Parties at Gymboree (0-5 yrs)
Location: Gymboree Play & Music, 942A West 16th Street, North Van
Details: Morning parties are SOLD OUT, but there are still spots available for their 1pm and 4pm parties. Parties are an hour long, packed with Valentines themed music and play activities featuring Gymboree’s signature bubbles and parachute time! Treats will be provided and the cost is $5 per child. Mon, Feb 11th (10 am – 2 pm) – Free Family Snow Day at Mount Seymour
Location: Mount Seymour, North Van
Details: Tobogganing and tubing (the first 150 people to show their North Shore Credit Union Member Car or Northvanrec Playcard will receive free tobogganing or $10 off tubing), free ski/snowboard demo for tots/kids (ages 6 & under), arts & crafts activities, games, music, prizes, free hot chocolate & popcorn, outdoor fire pits, and much more!
Mon, Feb 11th (All day) – Family Day at Grouse Mountain
Location: Grouse Mountain, North Van
Details: For Family Day, Grouse Mountain is offering 50% off lift tickets and general admission for all BC residents. Check out their long list of events, including family sleigh rides, family breakfast, family photos, snow painting and scavenger hunt and much more. Be aware that some events require pre-registration!

Details: Shallow water aqua circuit on Family Day. All ages welcome! Fitness membership or $2 drop-in (per person).
Mon, Feb 11th (9:15am – 12:30pm) – Toddler & Me Drop-In (0-5 yrs)
Location: Mickey McDougall Rec Centre, North Van
Details: For kids, parents & caregivers. Come join in for songs, music, crafts, games, ride’em toys, climbing equipment and a big full-size trampoline! $4 drop-in (per person, second child discount available). Buy tickets at Harry Jerome building down the street.
Mon, Feb 11th (9:30 – 11:30am) – Family Day Parent & Tot Drop-In (0-5 yrs)
Location: John Braithwaite Community Centre Gymnasium, North Van
Details: Bring your toddlers & preschoolers down to the JBCC gymnasium for unstructured playtime and active fun – soccer, floor hockey, basketball, trampoline, riding toys and basic climbing equipment available. No instructor provided so children must be accompanied and supervised by parent/caregiver. $1 drop-in/child
Mon, Feb 11th (1:00 – 4:00pm) – Family Day Open Gym (6 yrs +)
Location: John Braithwaite Community Centre Gymnasium, North Van
Details: Give the gift of time and love of being active with your family at the JBCC Family Day Gym drop-in. They’ve got the space & sports to make that magic happen. Basketball, floor hockey, soccer, and table tennis available. $1 drop-in/person or $3/family

Valentines Day/Night Out
Thurs, Feb 14th (4:00 to 6:30 pm) – Complimentary Wine Tasting Event
Location: Everything Wine on Marine Drive near Capilano Mall
Details: This Valentine’s Day, Jeanette Servido (Commercial Director of Tenuta Argentiera in Italy), will be on hand in the Everything Wine Vintages Room to share a selection of premium wines! An event not to be missed, join them for this special complimentary event, meet Jeanette and have a few bottles signed, while enjoying a taste of Italy’s finest!
Thurs, Feb 14th (7:00 to 9:30 pm) – Valentines Day Chocolate Fondue Tour
Location: Mount Seymour ($80 per person, $142 per couple) (Ages 13+)
Details: Spend some quality time with your significant other and/or older kids while together you learn about the night sky and nature’s best-kept secrets, including wildlife mating rituals. Tour includes snowshoe guide, snowshoe rental and trail pass, chocolate and fruit fondue. Pre-registration required, arrive at least 15 minutes prior to tour departure time.
