Fruit Affair - Fruit bouquets

This week we are speaking with Dawn Peters,  Founder of Fruit Affair.  She is based out of Chilliwack, BC and delivers locally (fees dependent on location).

Dawn creates amazing fruit bouquets, chocolate covered strawberries,  fresh fruit platters and chocolate covered treats . She can make the perfect combination of fruits and salty snacks for every occasion. She will work with you to create the perfect combination of what you’re looking for, she even uses flowers and ornaments to get the design just right. These are a great option for kids birthdays also!

You can find Fruit Affair on Instagram Facebook and on their website.

What made you choose this type of business?

I chose this business because I love being creative in the kitchen.  My love of chocolate and fruit fueled my ideas and it went from there.
.

What is your favourite small business (aside from your own)?

My favorite small business right now is Cultivate Cafe!  They caught my eye when Covid started and I was able to place orders of delicious food to take home.  Though I love being in the kitchen, I do not like cooking LOL.  The food is absolutely amazing and they have awesome vegetarian options for me.  And to top it off, the owners are the nicest of people you’ll ever meet!  HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

.

If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

Piece of advice would be … just go for it!  If you have a passion and it makes you happy, it can’t be wrong.

If applicable, has your business been negatively affected by COVID19? If so how have you coped?

Covid hasn’t affected my business.  It’s possible is has actually helped me.  I’ve noticed more and more people are turning to small businesses and not the large commercial places to do their shopping.

.

What are your long term business goals?

Long term business goals would be to just keep going.  I’d like to partner up with some businesses so that we can help each other be successful.  I’m all about supporting the small business community, we need each other.

What are you most looking forward to with the launch of your new business?

Most looking forward to creating my own schedule.  Whats better then knowing what you need to do and having the time to actually do it all.  Not a lot of people get that luxury.  Life is busy.  Making meals, cleaning the house, taking kids to activities/school, going to the gym etc.  It’s a lot easier to balance these things when you are your own boss.

.

What is your funniest/weirdest/most memorable experience with a customer or client?

My most memorable memory… I was delivering to a house where some unfortunate circumstance had brought a family together unexpectedly.  The lady who answered the door was so thankful to have a fruit bouquet delivered, that she cried and gave me the biggest hug.  She said I had made her day a bit brighter.  Needless to say I started crying right along with her.  The payoff for me is always the reaction I get from one of my creations.  Whether is has put some brightness onto the table at a special occasion, or maybe just given someone a reason to smile that day… that’s the best part!
