Small Business Sunday with Place des Arts

We are currently in the thick of staying-at-home and focusing on social distancing. This is a very challenging time for so many people and so many small business/non-profits. We love supporting local and wanted to do our part in showcasing some fantastic small businesses every week.

Place des Arts Guitar Class

This week we are speaking with Place des Arts Communications Coordinator, Aurora van Roon. Place des Arts is a not-for-profit arts education centre located in Coquitlam with a mission to inspire the artist in everyone. Since 1972, they offer quality instruction for all ages and skill levels in the visual, literary and performing arts. All classes and lessons are taught by highly skilled arts professionals who take pride in ensuring all students receive personalized attention. Place des Arts is located at 1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam BC.

What types of art programs do you offer?

We offer classes for all ages in music, theatre, dance, visual arts and creative writing.

What is your favourite small business (aside from your own)?

As a proud member of the Coquitlam community, we work with a number of great organizations. We love to promote and collaborate with Coquitlam Heritage. They offer a number of great events and exhibits that creatively tell the stories of Coquitlam’s past and present.

Place des Arts Art PiecesIf you had one piece of advice to someone hesitant to try an arts class?

Anyone can do it! You don’t need talent or experience. Place des Arts has many classes for the beginner in a wide variety of offerings. Sometimes it’s just a matter of finding what arts medium inspires you. Be patient with yourself. Focus on the creative process; not the result. Our building is special as well, because we have all the different types of art under one roof and you can easily be inspired by your fellow classmates no matter the discipline. We truly immerse you in all things art when you walk in our doors.

What are your long term business goals? Do you plan on opening additional locations?

We are planning for a facility expansion sometime in the future. We are currently bursting at the seams and a larger, state-of-the-art facility would allow us to provide more opportunities for our growing community to experience and explore the arts.

What is your funniest/weirdest/most memorable experience with a customer or client?

We have over 40 teachers, all of whom have had plenty of funny and memorable experiences with their students.

Thank you to Aurora for participating in Small Business Sunday.
