FAMILY EVENTS ON THE NORTH SHORE

FRIDAY, AUGUST 22nd

 
Friday Night Market at the Shipyards (5 – 10 pm) (FREE) 
Location: Shipbuilder’s Square at the foot of Lonsdale, North Van
Details: The popular Friday night market is back! Each week you can enjoy fresh food, locally made products, musicians, art and live entertainment. There are always LOTS of kids dancing up a storm in front of the stage. If you’re hungry make sure you visit the food trucks and then stop by the beer and wine garden.
 
Hot Summer Nights (6:30 – 8pm) (FREE) 
Location: Semisch Park, W. 2nd btw. Chesterfield & Mahon, North Van
Details: Beat the heat with your North Vancouver City Fire Department. Their truck will be at Semisch Park and the whole family can have fun seeing the fire truck, meeting the firefighters, checking out equipment, getting safety advice and enjoying some activities that may include a spritz or two of water. You might want to take a change of clothes for the kids!
 
Summer Concert Series: Live in Lynn Valley Village (7-9pm) (FREE) 
Location: 1277 Lynn Valley Road, North Van
Details: Family-friendly concerts on Friday nights all summer long! Bring your chairs and kiddies out this Friday to hear Hot Lucy (Rock Hits), and dance the night away! There are always tons of toddlers & young kids out enjoying these concerts!
 
Summer Concert Series: Evenings in Edgemont (7-9pm) (FREE) 
Location: 3000 block of Highland Boulevard, North Van
Details: Family-friendly concerts on Friday nights all summer long! Bring your chairs and kiddies out this Friday to hear Terminal Station (Blues Rock), and dance the night away! There are always tons of toddlers & young kids out enjoying these concerts!
 
Family Movie Night on the Plaza: FROZEN (8:24 pm start time) (FREE) 
Location: Civic Plaza – West 14th Street, North Van
Details: Bring your kiddies out to watch FROZEN on the big screen in Civic Plaza this Friday night. Seating is limited so bring a lawn chair or blanket. Popcorn and drinks available for purchase. Washrooms at City Hall will be open. Come watch a movie under the stars. Fun for whole family! Movies begin at sunset.
 
 
 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 23rd

 
Book ‘n Bake Sale (11 am – 4 pm) (FREE)
Location: City Library  120 West 14th Street, North Van
Details: Friends of the North Vancouver City Library are once again holding their summer Book ‘n Bake Sale. The sale will feature current used books, as well as a variety of delicious home-baked goods, compliments of the Friends’ members and library staff. Stop by and buy great reads and home-made treats at sweet prices, and enjoy the work of local craftspeople!
 
Imagine & Explore: Inside Out (10:30am – 12pm)
Location: Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre, 3663 Park Road, North Van
Details: What kind of creature keeps its skeleton outside its body? An insect, that’s who! Discover the incredible world of Lynn Canyon’s invertebrates. For children aged 3 to 6 years old, with an adult. Pre-register at 604-990-3755. $8.25 per child, adults FREE.  
 
Cates Park Summer Concerts (4 – 7pm) (FREE)
Location: Cates Park / Whey-ah-Wichen – 4100 Dollarton Hwy, North Van
Details: The Cates Park Concerts are free outdoor concerts, held each summer in picturesque Cates Park, North Vancouver. This concert series showcases local bands, featuring talented young artists performing on the outdoor stage from 4-7pm on Saturdays in July and August. Each concert will feature 3 local bands, and the final concert will showcase 9 singer/songwriters. So catch one performance, or bring your blanket and lawn chair and catch them all. Pack a picnic or get food from Wally’s Burgers at the Cates Park Concession (concession is open daily during the summer from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm, weather dependent). For info call 250-725-3696. 
 
Summer Sessions at Shipbuilders’ Square (7 – 10pm) (FREE)
Location: Shipbuilders’ Square, Foot of Lonsdale, North Van
Details: A free summer concert series at Shipbuilders’ Square at the foot of Lonsdale. Taking place on Saturdays from July 5 – August 30, the series features free evening concerts with a diverse mix of performers and musicians. Early afternoons will feature a variety of fun family activities including free interactive art for kids, face painters, and “Painters at the Pier”. Each Saturday will host a variety of food trucks, local artisan vendors and a beer garden for those 19 and over. Bring the family, bring a chair and come to have fun.
 

SUNDAY, AUGUST 24th

 
Deep Cove Daze (12 noon – 7 pm) (FREE)
Location: Panorama Park, Panorama Drive, Deep Cove, North Van
Details: Every August since 1998, the Musart Cultural Society has produced the Deep Cove Daze Community Festival at Panorama Park in beautiful Deep Cove. The festival includes a main stage with bands and entertainment, a kid’s stage, an artisan village featuring all types of arts and crafts, a midway of rides for kids, food fair, sponsor booths, and a beer garden.
 
SummerFest 2014: Concert Series Sundays (1-3pm) (FREE)
Location: Lonsdale Quay, 123 Carrie Cates Court, North Van
Details: Free live concerts featuring a different music genre each week, with returning favourites and world-renowned performers. There is something to please every musical taste! This Sunday features Studio Cloud 30 (A variety of local artists).
