FRIDAY, JULY 11th

 

Friday Night Market at the Shipyards (5 – 10 pm) (FREE) 
Location: Shipbuilder’s Square at the foot of Lonsdale, North Van
Details: The popular Friday night market is back! Each week you can enjoy fresh food, locally made products, musicians, art and live entertainment. There are always LOTS of kids dancing up a storm in front of the stage. If you’re hungry make sure you visit the food trucks and then stop by the beer and wine garden.
 
Friday Night Movie on the Plaza: Featured Movie – Up (9:15pm) (FREE) 
Location: Civic Plaza, 120 West 14th Street, North Van
Details: Movies begin at sunset! Chairs and blankets welcome. Popcorn and beverages available for purchase. This is an all-ages, family-friendly event. Free, no registration required. This week’s movie is Up.
 
Summer Concert Series: Live in Lynn Valley Village (7-9pm) (FREE) 
Location: 1277 Lynn Valley Road, North Van
Details: Family-friendly concerts on Friday nights all summer long! Bring your chairs and kiddies out this Friday to hear Rosco (Art Fold Pop), and dance the night away! There are always tons of toddlers & young kids out enjoying these concerts!
 
Summer Concert Series: Evenings in Edgemont (7-9pm) (FREE) 
Location: 3000 block of Highland Boulevard, North Van
Details: Family-friendly concerts on Friday nights all summer long! Bring your chairs and kiddies out this Friday to hear Rich Hope (Country Soul), and dance the night away! There are always tons of toddlers & young kids out enjoying these concerts!
 
Summer Concert Series: Concerts in the Cove (7-9pm) (FREE) 
Location: Panorama Park, 2200 Block of Panorama Drive, North Van
Details: Family-friendly concerts on Friday nights all summer long! Bring your chairs and kiddies out this Friday to hear The Day Trippers (Beatles Tribute), and dance the night away! There are always tons of toddlers & young kids out enjoying these concerts!
 

SATURDAY, JULY 12th

 

Whistler Children’s Festival (10am – 4pm) ($5, kids 2 & under FREE) 
Location: Lynn Valley Village, 1277 Lynn Valley Road, North Van
Details: On July 12th and 13th the Whistler Olympic Plaza in the heart of Whistler Village will be transformed as tents, balloons, stages, and circus acts populate the Great Lawn for the annual Whistler Children’s Festival. It’s a weekend of creativity with dozens of workshops, live musical performances, and a myriad of activities designed to spark the imagination. Activities for children of all ages – from the Toddler Town tent to the Vancouver Aquarium touch tanks, to the Circus Skills workshops, to the popular Soap Stone Carvings. Transform yourself with face painting and balloon hats and creatures – ideal for both parents and children. Of course, no festival is complete without treats to take with you. This year they’ll have free giveaways from Love Child Organics, Free Yumm brownies, Nesters Market and other local supporters.
 
Imagine & Explore: Swishing Salmon (10:30am – 12pm)
Location: Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre, 3663 Park Road, North Van
Details: Get your fins swishing during this splashy salmon adventure at the Ecology Centre! For children aged 3 to 6 years old, with an adult. Pre-register at 604-990-3755. $8.25 per child, adults FREE. 
 
Summer Craft Fair (11am – 4pm)
Location: Civic Plaza, 14th St & Lonsdale Ave, North Van
Details: These craft fairs showcase talents of local artisans and crafters while they display their unique, hand-crafted items for sale. There is an assortment of artisans at each of the summer craft fairs, offering an abundance of different wares. Items for sale include hand-crafted jewellery and metal work, wood toys, purses, original artwork, home décor and more. There is also live music to enjoy at the Plaza.
 
Cates Park Summer Concerts (4 – 7pm) (FREE)
Location: Cates Park / Whey-ah-Wichen – 4100 Dollarton Hwy, North Van
DetailsThe Cates Park Concerts are free outdoor concerts, held each summer in picturesque Cates Park, North Vancouver. This concert series showcases local bands, featuring talented young artists performing on the outdoor stage from 4-7pm on Saturdays in July and August. Each concert will feature 3 local bands, and the final concert will showcase 9 singer/songwriters. So catch one performance, or bring your blanket and lawn chair and catch them all. Pack a picnic or get food from Wally’s Burgers at the Cates Park Concession (concession is open daily during the summer from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm, weather dependent). For info call 250-725-3696.

Pianos on the Street – Free Live Music at Lonsdale Quay (12 – 8pm) 
Location: Lonsdale Quay, 123 Carrie Cates Court, North Van
Details: More pianos are coming to the streets of Metro Vancouver and families are invited to celebrate! The city is placing a piano for all members of the public to play on the waterfront at Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver on Sunday, July 13th at noon. There will be free live music featuring some of North Vancouver’s finest musicians. They’re also hosting an upload video contest- play the city piano on the plaza and you could also win a cash prize of up to $400 and have the chance to perform with the North Shore Symphony!
