Sat, June 14th (10am – 6pm) – Philippine Days Festival (FREE) Location: Waterfront Park, 200 Block of West Esplanade, North Van Details: This weekend celebrates the 116th Philippine Independence Day. The day begins at 10:00am with the flag raising of the Canadian and Philippine flags at the Civic Plaza by the City Library. The celebrations then move to Waterfront Park where a small parade and a colorful opening ceremony takes place. Each year, approximately 20,000 people gather at this 2-day festival, where everyone gets a taste of traditional Filipino cuisine, live cultural entertainment, including songs and dances, and great fellowship with the Filipino community. Sat, June 14th (10am) – 9th Annual Strides for Strokes (FREE) Location: John Lawson Park, West Van Details: This family friendly walk, run, wheel route goes from John Lawson Park to Dundarave and back, and is a major fundraiser for stroke survivors and their caregivers. There will be food, refreshments, prizes and great music. Sat, June 14th (5-8pm) – Bagpipes by the Beach (BY DONATION) Location: Ambleside Park, West Van Details: Gates open at 5pm, with bands starting at 6pm. Admission by donation. The West Vancouver Fire Fighters Charitable Society is hosting their annual Bagpipes by the Beach. Come down to Ambleside Park and enjoy an evening of amazing music featuring music local pipe bands from the North Shore and Vancouver area.

Sun, June 15th (10am – 3pm) – Family Fishing Day (FREE) Location: Rice Lake, Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, North Van Details: This event is part of BC’s Family Fishing Weekend promoted by the Family Fishing Society of BC and coincides with Father’s Day. It is free to attend (you may wish to bring cash for salmon BBQ & raffles). Families are encouraged to come along & participate in license-free fishing in the lake (fishing tackle available to use), learn about ethical fishing techniques, release rainbow trout in Rice Lake, prizes, live music, exhibitor booths, Bouncy Castles, and big fire trucks. There will also be 3 bus tours up to the Seymour River Hatchery leaving at 11am, 12pm and 1pm (first-come, first-served basis). Sun, June 15th (10:30am – 3pm) – Save Our Shores Waterfront Walk Location: Cates Park to Deep Cove, North Van Details: The Annual Save Our Shores Low Tide Waterfront Discovery Walk is a moderately challenging walk for all ages, along beach and trails, starting at Cates Park and finishing at Deep Cove. Sign up time is between 10:30am and 11:30am. A free boat ride will bring participants back to their cars (until 3pm), or they can walk back. Sturdy footwear is advisable as there are sections of rocky beach, and do not forget water. Walk begins at Cates Park concession stand.
