Family Events on the North Shore This Weekend (June 20-22, 2014)

solstice_fest-300x239LOTS of family events & outings on the North Shore this weekend! From the pie festival at Loutet Farm, to the Teddy Bear Picnic and LOTS of concerts, there’s something for every family. Hope you all have a blast this weekend!

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 20th

 
 
Fri, June 20th (5-10 pm) – Friday Night Market at the Shipyards (FREE) 
Location: Shipbuilder’s Square at the foot of Lonsdale, North Van
Details: The popular Friday night market is back! Each week you can enjoy fresh food, locally made products, musicians, art and live entertainment. There are always LOTS of kids dancing up a storm in front of the stage. If you’re hungry make sure you visit the food trucks and then stop by the beer and wine garden.
 
 

SATURDAY, JUNE 21st

 
 
Sat, June 21st (9am – 11:30am) – Fun with Dad (or male caregivers) 
Location: West Van Family Place (in West Van Rec Centre)
Details: Includes snack for parents and children and one hour of multi-sport Sportball ($5 per family, for kids up to age 6). Contact Leslie Black at leslie@akissgoodnight.ca for more details.
 
Sat, June 21st (10:30 am – 2:00 pm) – Teddy Bear Picnic  (FREE)
Location: St. Andrew’s United Church, St. Georges Ave, North Van
Details: Take your favourite furry friend along to the 8th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic. Your teddy will be treated to a teddy bear beauty parlour makeover, a visit with Dr. Bear at the teddy bear clinic, and even have their paws read by the teddy bear paw reader. There will also be face painting, arts and crafts, BBQ, bouncy castle, bake sale, story time, and bear-ious other activities. The event runs rain or shine.   
  
Sat, June 21st (10am – 12:00pm) – Solstice & Pie Festival  (FREE)
Location: Loutet Farm, East 14th & Rufus Ave, North Van
Details: Celebrate the longest day of the year, and the berry harvest! Enter your berry pie into the taste testing contest, learn about growing berries in your backyard, and join the pie potluck picnic at 12:00pm. Limited supply of berry plants will also be for sale at the regular farm gate sales.
 
 

SUNDAY, JUNE 22nd

 

Sun, June 22nd (10am) – 23rd Annual Walk the World for Schizophrenia  (FREE)
Location: John Lawson Park, End of 17th Street, West Van
Details: Everyone is welcome to join the North Shore Schizophrenia Society for the 23rd annual Walk the World for Schizophrenia. Help raise awareness about serious mental illness and its affect on families and individuals. The walk begins at John Lawson Park and goes to Dundarave Pier and back again – just look for the clusters of blue and gold balloons!
 
Sun, June 22nd (1pm) – Night Crawlers Featuring Dawn Pemberton – Concert  (FREE)
Location: Civic Plaza  14th Street & Lonsdale Avenue, North Van
Details: In partnership with TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival. This is gritty, soulful, down home music that’s all about having a good time. In the tradition of ’60s Hammond B3 organ bands like Booker T and the MGs, Vancouver’s own Night Crawlers explode with soulful swagger and greasy swing.
 
Sun, June 22nd (5pm) – Keep On Singing – Concert  (FREE)
Location: Lynn Valley United Church  3201 Mountain Hwy, North Van
Details: byoV (bring your own Voice) Community Choir presents their year-end concert  “Keep On Singing.” This hour long concert is also a celebration of the choir’s second year of music making. byoV is a non-auditioned community choir that celebrates community, peace, harmony, and joy through singing. In this concert, a variety of styles of music, gospel, spiritual, world, jazz, pop, and classical, will be showcased. The concert will not be complete without the audience joining in the fun in several sing-along songs. Stay for refreshments afterwards before heading out to continue enjoying the summer weather.
