SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18th
Mad Science (9:30 – 11:30 am) Location: John Braithwaite Community Centre, 145 W. 1st Street, North Van Details: Are you ready for a messy morning? Experiment with some science stuff – flubber, bubbling test tubes, and many other mucky activities. For ages 2 – 6 with an adult; please pre-register. Loutet Farm Pumpkin Patch (10:00 am to 3:00 pm) Location: Loutet Farm, East 14th Street & Rufus Avenue, North Van Details: Come and pick up a pumpkin for Halloween! Watch apple press demos, and enjoy live music. Take a tour of the farm to see what else is growing. Pumpkins cost $5 – $10 depending on size. The Great Pumpkin Patch (10:00 am to 2:00 pm) Location: Lynn Valley Parent Participation Preschool, 3220 Mountain Highway, North Van Details: Wear your costumes, and spend a fun day at the pumpkin patch. Visit the haunted house, get your face painted, decorate a Halloween cookie, take a photo at the photo booth, and try out spooky science activities. Take home a pumpkin and a bag of treats. $15 per family. Behind the Scenes at Maplewood Farm (11am-12pm and 2pm-3pm) Location: Maplewood Farm, 405 Seymour River Place, North Van Details: Discover what it takes to run a farm. Tour the buildings and take a peek at the “staff only” areas. Collect and wash eggs, prepare animal feed, and help with animal grooming. Please pre-book your tour. Halloween Party at Jaycee House (11:00 am to 1:00 pm) (FREE) Location: Lynnmour Jaycee House, 1251 Lillooet Road, North Van Details: Come in your costume, and have fun with pumpkin decorating, crafts, treats and entertainment. Pumpkin Patch Fun (12 noon to 4 pm) Location: Cypress Park Primary School, 4355 Marine Drive, West Van Details: $20 per family – each family gets to pick and bring home 2 pumpkins. Carnival games, face painting, pony rides, baked goods, cupcakes, smokies and hot dogs. Lots of family fun! Imagine and Explore: (Not So) Creepy Critters (1 – 2:30 pm)
Location: Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre, 3663 Park Road, North Van Details: Discover the fascinating stories of owls, crows and other slightly spooky forest animals. For ages 3 – 6 with an adult; please pre-register. Kids $8.25, adults FREE.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19th
Team Clarke’s 17th Annual Pumpkin Patch! (10 am until pumpkins are gone!)
Location: 3151 Woodbine Drive, Edgemont Village, North Van Details: Come in costume and pick a free pumpkin (until they’re gone), guess the weight of the giant pumpkin, photo op with professional photographer, bean bag toss, candy, coffee, apple cider, and balloon artist! The Wiggles Presents: Ready, Steady, Wiggle Tour! (1 pm & 4:30 pm shows) Location: Centennial Theatre, 2300 Lonsdale Avenue, North Van Details: The Wiggles are on the road again, so get ready to clap and sing along! Book tickets in advance as this show often sells out. Young Naturalists’ Club: Fabulous Fungi (1 – 2:30 pm) Location: Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre, 3663 Park Road, North Van Details: Walk around the forest, and learn about local mushrooms. Mary Berbee, a mycologist from UBC will be your guide. For ages 5 – 13 with an adult; please pre-register.
