Last week, I was treated to a private physiotherapy and pilates session at Gastown Physio & Pilates. I did pilates regularly when pregnant, but I didn’t realize that seeing a physiotherapist would be such a useful resource for mamas as there’s a lot of pelvic floor exercise and knowledge you can learn from them.
My first session was with physiotherapist Chelsea Sheppard, a physiotherapist who specializes in women’s health. I was 7-weeks post-partum, so my body is still on recovery mode and having a specialist look at the pelvis and pelvic floor functionality was really useful. I learned a few tips on how to strengthen my pelvic floor again and different ways to engage the muscles as well.
After meeting with Chelsea, she passed on her assessment to Melina Mirzaei, a kinesiologist and a clinical pilates practitioner. She showed me a few great exercises to help restore my core and provided some guidelines for getting back into fitness safely. See a sample of these exercises and tips here.
I learned a lot at both sessions and they really brought home how important it is to get your body working functionally first, before jumping right into higher impact exercise. If your core body functionality isn’t in order, anything you do will put stress on your body and may eventually cause problems down the line.
Now, it’s your turn! Gastown Physio & Pilates is offering TWO free private physio and pilates session for two lucky mamas! Each giveaway is valued at $250, and is a great opportunity to have some “me” time.
This giveaway is open to any mama or expecting mama located in Vancouver. Even if it’s been years since you had a baby, a physio & pilates session can still give you insight on your body function and give you assistance on where to focus.

ETA: Congrats to our winners – Sara Miller and Koran Heisler!
I have recently started working out again after having 2 boys, and this would be a great tool to make sure I am on the right track!
Does thinking-about-having-a-baby-before-I-die count as an eligible entry? 😉
I go to pilates at this clinic already – and they are fab fab. Melina is divine.
Looking forward to finding out the 2 lucky winners!
