Highlands Preschool aims to inspire curiosity, independence and a life-long love of learning to help their children become contributing members of our community and the world. My eldest daughter attended Highlands for a number of years (starting as a 2-year old) and our family loved the experience. The philosophy behind the curriculum is that children should be involved actively in their own learning through play. They “learn by doing”, often working with hands-on, open ended materials and carrying out projects of their own choosing, supported by highly qualified teachers.
Highlands’ approach encompasses all aspects of child development and places focus on learning early skills in language, listening and literacy taught throughout the whole curriculum. Children build essential skills in problem solving and sustained thinking, among others, which leads to future academic and social success. At Highlands, experienced teachers work together with parents to support children through their early years, extending their emotional, social, academic, physical skills and abilities.
Highlands Preschool provides bright, well-equipped classrooms, a fun outdoor area with a private playground and sandbox, and a large gym for rainy days with bikes, balls and play structures. They also offer an enjoyable music program with an experienced and creative Early Childhood Educator and musician. This provides for an exceptionally well-rounded program for young children.
Class options are 2, 3 or 4 days per week, and Registration for fall 2015 is open from January 16-30, 2015.
Current and prospective families are invited to attend the preschool’s annual Open House on Thursday, January 15th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. This information session is a great place to find answers to questions about the school’s programs and registration process. Teachers, current families and board members will all be on hand to answer questions and visitors can tour the classrooms and see their fantastic space as well!
Prospective parents are also invited to attend Preschool Tours on January 16th & 21st at 10:15 am & 1:30 pm. Please RSVP for the tours by email (director@highlandspreschool.ca), and be sure to pass these dates on to friends and introduce them to a fantastic local preschool!
