How Does He Do It?…with Andrew McFarlane

Twice a month we interview Dads in our “How Does He Do It?” feature. If interested in participating please reach out on Facebook or Instagram.

Andrew standing on a ladderWe are excited to introduce you to Andrew McFarlane. He is married dad with two sons. Andrew and his family live in Utah County, USA. He is also a dad blogger: thepapaperspective.com.

Are you an urban or suburban dad, where do you live?

I’m a suburban dad! I live with my wife and kids in a small town in Utah County with awesome neighbors. We love our community and all of the events that they put on here.

Tell us about your children?

I have two boys (quite the handful if you ask me!). Eli, our 3-year-old, loves paw patrol, construction vehicles, and making us laugh. So, not too out of the ordinary for a lil’ dude his age. And Blake, now 8 months old, is just starting to show his personality! He’s easy to smile and loves to make others smile with his little giggles and big blue eyes.

Tell us about your typical weekday?

Monday through Friday from 8-5 I’m a financial analyst for a Tech firm in Lehi, Utah. I’m a “behind-the-scenes” guy making sure the numbers from a financial planning and analysis point of view are in line and are good to go for investors. At night, I come home for dinner to hang out with the family! We play board games, snuggle on the couch in front of a movie, or we play outside (walks, street hockey, and bike rides). After the boys are in bed, I’m either binge-watching a show with my wife, working on my dad blog (thepapaperspective.com), or playing hockey with other men trying to lose weight.

Do you have help?

Sure do! It’s my wife and me working side by side to keep a roof over our heads and to raise decent humans. Life wouldn’t be as nice as it is without her.

Who cooks dinner?

Melanie cooks dinner 99% of the time. I cook dinner when she’s out on a well-deserved girls trip or girls night.

How often do you have date nights?

Not as often as we need to… The goal is once a month to get out of the house to do something together where we get a babysitter so we can create new memories. This is something we really need to improve on.

What clothing lines or stores do you like to purchase for your children?

Old Navy is our homeboy. Anything in that store fits my kids, wife, and me very well. And it looks good too.

Do you exercise regularly and if so, what and how do you fit in it?

Most definitely. Without getting myself moving, I wouldn’t be able to keep up with my own kids. I’m playing hockey 2-3x a week while mixing in weight lifting 2-3x as well.

What is your favourite Christmas/Hanukkah gift that you have received as an adult?

My favorite gift to date is a tie between a cruise with my wife (just her and I) and a professional shave and scalp massage from a local barbershop. Both were awesome experiences (and the cruise started a new “couples tradition” for us to take a trip together every even year!)

What are you currently watching?

Monk. Yeah, yeah, yeah… I know it’s an older show. But my wife and I love it. But, whenever we are “between shows” we always default to The Office. Who doesn’t??

Thank you to Andrew McFarlane for taking the time out of his day to let us know “How He Does It.”
