Sponsored by Malt-O-Meal cereals. All opinions are my own.
I can’t remember now who it was, but a dad blogger tweeted a hilariously accurate tweet the other day. He tweeted something like “It’s 2018, how are cereal bags not resealable yet?!” and I couldn’t agree more! Thankfully I just discovered a cereal brand that DOES offer resealable bags!
I couldn’t be more excited to share this with you because this has been a game-changer for me! The Malt-O-Meal l cereals come in a bag, that has a resealable top. Not only is the cereal delicious, it’s also economical as well. It is sold in grocery stores across Canada, but I found mine at Walmart for $2.98 for a 468g bag, that’s 15 bowls!
No more cereal spills all over our breakfast drawer, no more stale cereal when the kids choose a different breakfast for a few days. I love it!
So, each and every weekday morning, this is how my routine goes:
- Make sure my oldest daughter is awake and wake my younger two
- Turn on the tea kettle
- Take the dogs outside for a brief walk
- Empty the dishwasher while I make myself tea
- Make sure all three girls are eating some breakfast (they generally help themselves, see below!)
- Make lunches for my younger two
- Feed all four pets
- Check my email
- Drive the girls to school
SIGH.
Then I come back home, have another cup of tea, and usually head to the gym for a quick cardio workout before opening my laptop for the day.
So here are the things that keep me sane every morning of the week!
1. SMART PURCHASES
As I mentioned earlier, those new resealable cereal bags! I’m in love! I hate when cereal goes stale, and I also hate how our cereal boxes spill all over the bottom of the breakfast drawer, so I’m so excited about discovering the Malt-O-Meal® Honey Oh’s cereal so this is no longer happening! This cereal is not only convenient, but it’s economical too, which makes my wallet oh-so-happy.
2. MAKE IT EASY FOR YOUR KIDS TO SERVE THEMSELVES
My youngest daughter can even get her own breakfast because I make everything available at her height in the kitchen breakfast drawer.
In the drawer, I have bowls, spoons, and their current favourite cereal! The Malt-O-Meal® Honey Oh’s is their new favourite and even beat out waffles this morning as the first choice for my younger two girls. The Honey Ohs are so tasty, my daughter has been taking some to school too, having them as a dry snack she can grab-and-go at recess.
3. MULTI-TASK
Listen, I know every single mom out there already KNOWS how to multi-task like a boss. But, what I mean is just that creating the space for the girls to make their own breakfast allows me to make their lunches while they eat so that we’re getting twice as much done and we’re not AS crunched for time.
4. CREATE A PET (or CHORE) SCHEDULE
So here’s the thing. I don’t have it all figured out. I have been feeling a little overwhelmed by the pet chores recently. I’m taking them outside, feeding them, and cleaning up after them. My girls SHOULD be helping, after all, they’re the reason we have 2 of the pets (they begged for!). So I’m creating a schedule today, a document I’ll print off weekly and post on the fridge, that they rotate through the chores each week!
