Where I live gets extremely cold during the Winter so fuzzy warm blankets are a must. However, when reading that doesn’t always work so, I was thrilled to find the ready cozy! Featuring a hood, wide sleeves, and an open front, this plush layer is designed for warmth and relaxation—perfect for curling up with a book or unwinding at home.

2. Finding Flora

Scottish newcomer Flora Craigie jumps from a moving train in 1905 to escape her abusive husband. Desperate to disappear, she claims a homestead on the beautiful but wild Alberta prairie, determined to create a new life for herself. She is astonished to find that her nearest neighbours are also female: a Welsh widow with three children; two American women raising chickens; and a Métis woman who supports herself by training wild horses.

While battling both the brutal environment and the local cynicism toward female farmers, the five women with their very different backgrounds struggle to find common ground. But when their homes are threatened with expropriation by a hostile government, they join forces to “fire the heather,” a Scottish term meaning to raise a ruckus. To complicate matters, there are signs that Flora’s violent husband is still hunting for her. And as the competition for free land along the new Canadian Pacific Railway line heats up, an unscrupulous land agent threatens not only Flora’s livelihood, but her very existence.

A family on a remote island. A mysterious woman washed ashore. A rising storm on the horizon.

Dominic Salt and his three children are caretakers of Shearwater, a tiny island not far from Antarctica. Home to the world’s largest seed bank, Shearwater was once full of researchers, but with sea levels rising, the Salts are now its final inhabitants. Until, during the worst storm the island has ever seen, a woman mysteriously washes ashore.

Isolation has taken its toll on the Salts, but as they nurse the woman, Rowan, back to strength, it begins to feel like she might just be what they need. Rowan, long accustomed to protecting herself, starts imagining a future where she could belong to someone again.

But Rowan isn’t telling the whole truth about why she set out for Shearwater. And when she discovers sabotaged radios and a freshly dug grave, she realizes Dominic is keeping his own secrets. As the storms on Shearwater gather force, they all must decide if they can trust each other enough to protect the precious seeds in their care before it’s too late—and if they can finally put the tragedies of the past behind them to create something new, together.

A novel of breathtaking twists, dizzying beauty, and ferocious love, Wild Dark Shore is about the impossible choices we make to protect the people we love, even as the world around us disappears.

4. One Golden Summer

one golden summer

Good things happen at the lake. That’s what Alice’s grandmother says, and it’s true. Alice spent just one summer there at a cottage with Nan when she was seventeen—it’s where she took that photo, the one of three grinning teenagers in a yellow speedboat, the image that changed her life.

Now Alice lives behind a lens. As a photographer, she’s most comfortable on the sidelines, letting other people shine. Lately though, she’s been itching for something more, and when Nan falls and breaks her hip, Alice comes up with a plan for them both: another summer in that magical place, Barry’s Bay. But as soon as they settle in, their peace is disrupted by the roar of a familiar yellow boat, and the man driving it.

Charlie Florek was nineteen when Alice took his photo from afar. Now he’s all grown up—a shameless flirt, who manages to make Nan laugh and Alice long to be seventeen again, when life was simpler, when taking pictures was just for fun. Sun-slanted days and warm nights out on the lake with Charlie are a balm for Alice’s soul, but when she looks up and sees his piercing green gaze directly on her, she begins to worry for her heart.

Because Alice sees people—that’s why she is so good at what she does—but she’s never met someone who looks and sees her right back.

While I love wearing my smart watch there are just some things it doesn’t track that I wish it did. The Ultra Human Ring is a great option for those non-watch wearers or someone who wants to keep a close eye on a wide variety of health vitals.  The Ultrahuman Ring measures a wide range of metrics including sleep, activity, stress, heart health, movement, workouts, and recover. For women it also tracks ovulation, cycles and pregnancy which is a huge help and gives more insights than a period app. This option does not have a monthly fee which is fantastic.

10. Kindle

E-readers have quickly become my favorite way to read a book. I have owned both a Kobo and Kindle and while the Kobo does have the library option ( here in Canada) Kindle is my pick. Kindle unlimited has been a game changer with their extensive library and Kindle exclusive books.

11.  Everywhere Belt Bag

Though these same out several years ago I still think they make an amazing gift. The ability to wear it as a fanny pack or cross body it perfect for when you’re on the run and don’t want/need an entire purse. They are also great for attending concerts or events where they do not allow full sized bags inside.
