Do you have a little one with a desire to “play hockey” or just learn to skate? This is something my boys talk about often so as I was searching through my options and found that Pre CanSkate lessons are perfect for 3 to 5 year olds and are offered at quite a few local businesses. Where this age group is usually a little harder to find things to do with, much like the baby generation, we hope this list of skating lessons in Edmonton and area will help:
Crestwood Skating Club
The Crestwood Skating Club offers a variety of skating programs for all abilities, including a beginner learn to skate and an advanced learn to skate program. There is a program starting in January and the Crestwood Skating Club utilizes the Callingwood Arena.
Drop-In Learn to Skate Program
The City of Edmonton offers a Drop-in Learn to Skate Program at various locations across Edmonton, you can find a list here. All children under 5 years old must be accompanied by an adult on the ice and must have proper equipment; this program is free and will be at your child’s pace.
Extreme Edge Skating Club
The Extreme Edge Skating Club offers skating lessons for children 4 years and older, with classes running through November and December at the Clareview Arena and Londonderry Arena.
Federation Skating Club
The Federation Skating Club offers a variety of lessons, including the PreCanSkate lessons for 3 & 4 year olds; they have sessions starting in January! The Federation Skating Club utilizes the Tipton Arena and the Kinsmen Arena.
Figure 8 Skating Club
The Figure 8 Skating Club has a winter session starting in January with lessons at the Kenilworth Arena and the Meadows Recreation Center.
Fliteway Figure Skating Club
The Fliteway Figure Skating Club offers both a preschool skating class and the CanLearn Skating class with lessons starting in January. The Fliteway Figure Skating Club utilizes the Grand Trunk Arena, the Castledowns Arena, ad the Glengarry Arena
Fort Saskatchewan Figure Skating Association
The Fort Saskatchewan Figure Skating Association offers PreCanSkate lessons, however children must be at least three years old by December 1st.
Gateway Skating Club
The Gateway Skating Club has a winter session starting in January (registration open now) with lessons at the Kinsmen Arena, the Millwoods Rec Centre, and the Meadows Recreation Centre.
Ice Palace Figure Skating Club
The Ice Palace Figure Skating Club offers a variety of skating programs including the CanSkate Lessons for beginners. They have lessons starting in December at West Edmonton Mall and January at Terwillegar Rec Centre and West Edmonton Mall.
Mayfield Figure Skating Club
The Mayfield Figure Skating Club caters to all levels, including beginners with the PreCanSkate Program. The fall session is currently running but there is a session that has just started in early November.
Strathcona County
The Strathcona County Rec Centre offers a ‘Slide & Glide’ program for parents to assist their child on the ice with supervision from an instructor and a ‘Born 2 Blade’ program which is an unparented class. Both programs are starting in January however Registration is open now.
St. Albert Skating Centre
The St. Albert Skating Centre offers a few learn to skate programs, including a preschool program, the CanSkate Program and more! Registration is open now for the January lessons.
Tri Area Skating Club
The Tri Area Skating Club caters to Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Parkland County. They offer a variety of lessons for all levels and they utilize the Glenn Hall Arena and the Tri-Leisure Centre Arena.
