Small Business Sunday with Jars by Jodi

Mini Egg Cookies

We are currently in the thick of staying-at-home and focusing on social distancing. This is a very challenging time for so many people and so many small businesses. We love supporting local and wanted to do our part in showcasing some fantastic small businesses every week.

Jars by Jodi Mini Egg Cookies

This week we are showcasing Jars by Jodi. Jars by Jodi is a small business, located in Pitt Meadows, that sells all the baking ingredients for cookies or desserts, all layered in a mason jar. If interested in purchasing the regular jars makes up to two dozen cookies and the mini jars make up to a dozen cookies. You can order directly from the website or the products are available in many local shops throughout the lower mainland.

What is unique about your business or What made you choose this type of business?

Jars by Jodi started when my husband and I were newly married and on a limited budget while still wanted to give quality Christmas gifts to our extended family. I ended up googling “quality gifts on a budget” and mason jar mixes popped up. After testing out a few recipes, I found one that was a hit! And Jars by Jodi was born.

What is your favourite small business (aside from your own)?

Oh my, there are so many that I could list! One of my long time favourites is Wild Child Designs. I’ve watched her business grow from the beginning, and it’s been amazing to witness the growth and development that has happened to her business!

If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

Don’t compare yourself to those around you! Just keep doing what you feel and know is best, and don’t let what anyone else is doing distract or discourage you.

What are your long term business goals?

I would love to expand my line to include more than just cookie and dessert mixes. It would also be amazing to have a team to work for me on a regular basis.

What is your funniest/weirdest/most memorable experience with a customer or client?

Last year, at a market, a long time customer came up to my table and began loudly praising the jars to her friend. There were a number of other people around the table or passing the table who all paused to listen to the customer’s praises. Before I knew it, people were throwing their credit cards at me. This customer ended up selling a few dozen jars for me! 😛
