This is still such a challenging time for small businesses. We love supporting and showcasing local and small business especially female owned. If you would like to be featured please email leah@modernmama.com
This week we are talking to Miriam Krause, the owner of Oak and Lavender. Her small shop is focused on modern farmhouse decor. The products are very versatile and would really work with any decor scheme. I would describe it as very natural and elegant.
With the holidays right around the corner, Oak and Lavender offers painted Christmas ornaments, stocking name tags, beaded garlands, and farmhouse stamped books.
What made you choose to open your business?
After spending so much time being at home and feeling like I lost myself in motherhood, my husband encouraged me to spend some time crafting and painting again!
What is your favourite small business? (Aside from your own)
I love Wick’d Petals. Such a cute local company!
If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out, what would it be?
Try one thing and stick to it for a little while. The first item I created didn’t really take off like I thought it would. Make sure you love what you do and have patience with your business.
What are your long term business goals?
When I have more time, I would love to jump into some other ideas up my sleeve. I’m currently a mother to two (almost three!) and being a mom is and will always be my first priority.
What is your funniest/weirdest/most memorable customer or client experience?
I’ve really only had good experiences with my customers. I love bulk and wholesale orders for my Christmas ornaments, but it’s also fun to personalize one special piece for someone.
Thanks to Miriam for participating in this week’s Small Business Sunday.
