I’ve seen the butterfly growing kits online before and have always been interested. I am a lover of both science and nature, and my kids always point out butterflies outside, so I thought this would be a perfect activity for all of us. I reached out to Education Station, and they got me all set up with all the supplies to grow our little friends from tiny little caterpillars, right up to beautiful butterflies that we could release to the world.
The Butterfly Raising Kit comes with:
- 8-10 larvae
- Artificial Diet in an 8 oz. group raising container
- a feeding vial
- paint brush
- complete instructions
- tips for teachers & butterfly facts
- *Habitats are not included but can be purchased in 3 available sizes.
Kits available for the Week of June 7th still. Click HERE to order.
Our Journey
Day 1 – Baby caterpillars with the feed to help them grow
Day 3 – Getting bigger…
Day 5 – Starting to look like the caterpillars we find outside
Day 7 – A couple caterpillars have formed their Chrysalis, some are getting ready by hanging in a J-like position
Day 9 – All of the caterpillars have formed their Chrysalis and are transferred to their mesh habitat
Day 11 – And now we wait…
Day 18 – Came home from camping to all but one of our butterflies having emerged from their chrysalis. We left the sugar water substance to feed them just in case. Time to get their wings stronger before we release them.
Day 19 – All Butterflies have emerged
Day 20 – The sun is shining, its warm outside, and they are flying around! Time to release our friends out into the wild!
