I was gifted a stay at Rowena’s Inn as well as provided meals at the Clubhouse restaurant. All opinions are my own.
I have been best friends with Ana since we were fifteen. Although in all that time we have never had a sleepover!?! While our kids are in school we try our best to do a weekly lunch but over the Summer our family schedules get a little chaotic and it is harder to get-together. In thinking of Self-Care September I though it was really important that we have a mini-getaway. It is important as women and Mom’s to reconnect with our friends and take a break for ourselves. We got to talk about non-parenting things and not be moms for 24 hours but get to be regular real-life adults.
We stayed in the recently remodelled Heron Cabin at Rowena’s Inn on The River in Harrison, BC. We had a one bedroom cabin that would easily fit a family of 4. The bedroom has a king size bed and the living room had a pull-out couch. The kitchen comes with modern stainless steel microwave, dishwasher, and full-size fridge. The bathroom has a deep soaker tub, glass steam shower and heated flooring. It also has robes great for lounging. The units are beyond beautiful and are covered in soft throws and fun themed accents. Our cabin had a perfect view of the lake and golf course. The deck has two chairs that are ideal for taking in the views with a glass of wine or coffee. They also offer free wifi.
We had the pleasure of dining at the Clubhouse Restaurant. It was less than a 5 minute walk from our cabin door so we could have a few drinks and not have to worry about driving. The restaurant also has lakeside and golf course views. The staff was very friendly and the customer service was great. We had our waters refilled without ever having them be empty. We were lucky enough to have the most beautiful sunset just as we were dining. For dinner, I ordered the house favourite, Roast Beef dinner that came with shaved roast beef piled high on the legendary Yorkshire Pudding, mashed potatoes, and seasonal vegetables. Ana had the New Yorker, an eight ounce AAA Alberta beef strip loin steak, house dry-rub, fried onions, and mushrooms. The food was delicious and we were stuffed by the end of our meal. Whether you are staying at the Inn or just looking for a new dinner spot I highly recommend the Clubhouse.
Once we were back to our room, we got our pajamas on. It was so peaceful and quiet which for me was super relaxing and for Ana a bit unnerving. For dessert we were gifted chocolate strawberries and wine. We brought spa products so we gave ourselves mini facials. Our living room had a fireplace so we lit it and turned on Netflix and watched a cheesy romantic comedy. It was so fantastic to be able to enjoy each others company without having interruptions. At home I am a night owl and usually have difficulties falling asleep but found it so relaxing at Rowena’s that I was fast asleep by 11pm. Ana took advantage of the big soaker tub.
I had one of the best night sleeps I have had in a long time. We had a big firm king sized bed. We were able to sleep until 9am which was a late sleep in for us. We made coffee and took throw blankets from the living room out to the outdoor chairs. We were able to enjoy our coffee outside while watching the early-bird golfers set up and take-in the view of the lake. When we were done our coffee, we walked over to the Clubhouse Restaurant for breakfast. Ana had the Eggs Benedict which was two poached eggs on a toasted English muffin, hollandaise, and hash browns. I had the French Toast with whipped cream, icing sugar, maple syrup and bacon. The portions were very big and the food was delicious.
After breakfast, we went back to our cabin and packed up to check-out. We had such a fun time that it was sad leaving. The cabins are very family-friendly or are perfect for a romantic getaway or a girls getaway. I think a weekend at Rowena’s Inn would be an alternative to a weekend in Whistler: Luxurious accommodations, golf course, ski/snowboarding option, boat tours, fantastic dining options and historical sites.
Thank you to Rowena’s Inn for hosting our girls getaway.
