Small Business Sunday with The Happy Home Line

The Happy Home Line

We are all in the middle of practicing physical distancing, and while this time is very challenging for everyone right now, it is especially difficult for small businesses. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and we need to support them however we can, so every week we will be featuring some of our local small businesses.

The Happy Home Line

The Happy Home Line is our next featured business, which is a home decor company that came to life as a passion project for the owner, Allison Brinsky. Allison studied Interior Design and has a passion for residential interiors and, after 12 years in the industry (never actually working in residential), she decided to merge her love of creating and business part time to create The Happy Home Line.

Allison has 3 little boys at home, as well as one fur baby, and loves travelling with her husband (even if it is just locally).

Allison is hoping her vision for helping others, to create a home that brings them joy, will help her talented team of local makers live out their dreams as well.

What is Unique About Your Business or What Made You Choose This Type of Business?

I often found myself shopping for home decor items that felt meaningful and looked handmade. I had ideas about how I wanted my space to feel and that did not include mass produced decor. I decided to create my own line of environmentally conscious decor that could really speak to the emotion and feeling of a person so that their personality and experiences could be reflected in their space. I wanted to create a personal connection to the physical space and a feeling of happiness and pride for the shopper. I hope that our products can be experienced while sparking happy memories. Everything we offer was designed by me, keeping the end life of the item in mind, and made locally by talented artisans.

What is Your Favourite Small Business (aside from your own)?

I have so many favourite small businesses and I know the scale of  “small” has a big range, but I love shopping at the Crown and Fox Boutique in Stony Plain; the feeling you get when you enter the store you know you are going to find something special. I love Winnies Online and Adams + Co., all local to Stony Plain, there are too many to choose from!

If You Had One Piece of Advice to Someone Just Starting Out, What Would it Be?

My one piece of advice would be to just start, after so long not working in the residential field I wasn’t interested in switching jobs to start from the bottom, I took my own idea and started to create the life I wanted to live, and write my own story.

What Are Your Long-Term Business Goals?

Long-term I would love to become a nationwide brand that is accessible and still values handmade quality and supports local artisans and creators.

What is Your Funniest/Weirdest/Most Memorable Experience With a Customer or Client?

This is a hard one as I launched only slightly before COVID hit and I have had minimal face-to-face interaction with my customers, but I would say the hoarding tendencies of my candle customers makes me laugh as they are all worried they won’t be able to get the scent they love beyond the end of the season so they like to stock up!
