Where to Skate for FREE In and Around Edmonton

Kids are expensive, so here are some locations in, and around, Edmonton where you can skate for free. Both Indoor and Outdoor. Many communities have smaller ice rinks as well that are not listed here.

ALBERTA LEGISLATURE GROUNDS

Skate on the edge of the South Lawn, under the seasonal lights on the Alberta Legislature and its grounds.

Public washrooms and a water fountain are located on the Legislature Grounds.

ICE DISTRICT PLAZA

The ICE District Plaza is home to Edmonton’s newest outdoor ice surface.

GLASTONBURY COMMUNITY LEAGUE ICE TRAIL

Address: 1101 Grantham Drive NW, Edmonton

5 fire pits available for use, but you must bring your own wood.

BONNIE DOON CENTRE SKATING RINK

Address: 8330 82 Avenue, Edmonton, Northwest Parking Lot

Hours: Thursday / Friday 2 pm to 9 pm, Saturday / Sunday 12 noon to 8 pm

ROTARY PARK OVAL

Address: 4815 44 Avenue, Stony Plain

Rotary Park features a groomed public skating area festively lit for the season. Drop-in during the day, or skate under the stars and twinkling lights.

JUBILEE PARK SKATING TRAIL

Address: 510 Grove Dr. W., Spruce Grove

This is Spruce Grove’s largest park, and in addition to a huge skating trail, it also offers changing areas, washrooms, a toboggan hill for more winter fun, and a playground. The skating trail winds through the entire park past picnic benches, and plenty of rest and photo stops

CENTRAL PARK SKATING OVAL

Address: 454 King St., Spruce Grove

This is a great place for beginners, and the ice is regularly maintained. Enjoy a peaceful or leisurely stroll through Spruce Grove’s Central Park with a path of holiday lights to illuminate your skate. Warm-up after your skate at the Fire pits or the Lions Log Cabin Concession with a hot coffee or snack.

Hours: open daily from 2:30 pm-9 pm

They provide heated changing/lacing stations, and the smooth ice is perfect for any skill level or age

COWAN SKATING PATHWAY

Address: 4501 Emerald Drive, Sherwood Park

Hours: open daily from 2:30 pm-9 pm

This wide and expansive skating trail is surrounded by tall trees and shrubs and is a beautiful natural skating experience with the pathway and a snow-banked hockey rink. The iceway is located next to the Emerald Hills Leisure Centre

LIONS PARK FREEZEWAY

Address: 21 Sir Winston Churchill Ave, St. Albert

LACOMBE LAKE PARK

Park Hours: 5am-11pm

INDOOR DROP IN VENUES

CITY OF EDMONTON ARENAS

No wristband required to attend a Free Drop-In Skate time. Participant capacity is capped at 100.

Helmets are not required but are highly recommended.

Children under the age of 8 must be actively supervised by a responsible person aged 13+.

ARDROSSAN RECREATION CENTRE

Hours: Sundays from 1-3pm

KINEX ARENA

Address: 66 Hebert Road, St. Albert

Tim Hortons Public Skating, proudly presented by the Jenkins Family, is a free program available for all ages and skill levels

Family Public Skating: Tues/Thurs 6:30pm-7:30pm, Sat 12:30pm-2pm

Parent and Tot Free Drop In: Tues-Thurs 9am-10am

GRANT FUHR ARENA

Address: 9 Agrena Rd, Spruce Grove

Hours: Mon-Fri 11:45am-12:45pm

Helmets are mandatory for everyone taking part in public skating.

GLENN HALL CENTENIAL ARENA

Hours: Mon/Wed/Thurs 3:30pm-5pm, Tues 9:30am-10:30am (parent & tot skate), Sat 6pm-7pm
