Twice a month we interview Dads in our “How Does He Do It?” feature. If interested in participating please reach out on Facebook or Instagram.
We are excited to introduce you to Loren Taves. Taves Family Farms has been a staple in Abbotsford for decades. They are about to launch the Taves Estate Cidery this Spring. Loren and his wife, Corinne, have 8 children and live in Abbotsford, BC.
Are you an urban or suburban dad, where do you live?
Rural. I live on the last farm on Gladwin Rd. On the Canada USA boundary.
Tell us about your children?
Corinne and I have 8 kids. 5 boys. 3 girls. Youngest, boy, Dawson is 8 and the oldest is Justine who is 21.
Tell us about your typical weekday?
I get up around 5:30 am. I go to the gym to work out 3 times a week. I try to do 4. I come home and assist in getting up the kids for school. I occasionally drive some of them. I eat breakfast and check the farms, do some chores and settle in to the office. I am on call and am moving from cider work, greenhouse, poultry and fields.
Do you have help?
For now Justine helps us.
Who cooks dinner?
Corinne. I’d like to but she’s much better at it. I work late at the office. Quite often something comes
up and I can’t get away from the farm early. Working to solve that 😉
How often do you have date nights?
Date weekends 3 almost 4 times a year. Occasionally a Friday night out. Took a week away at his year to go to Mexico. Discovered I have cancer in May last year. Going for surgery tomorrow. I’ll be ok I think. Real eye opener as it jumped me out of a routine life. So hopefully more times away coming.
What clothing lines or stores do you like to purchase for your children?
American Eagle, H&M, Walmart.
What is your favourite Christmas/Hanukkah gift that you have received as an adult?
Dawson. Born in our suburban. December 22.
What are you currently watching?
Always learning off YouTube and I read books. Last series I watched was suites, once apon a time and flash. Oh and Downton Abby.
Thanks to Loren for taking the time out of his day to let us know “How He Does It.”
